I tried everywhere to get that crap and they all said dealer only. You'll have to make the trip to the dealer to get it, and get ready to bend over! I was charged about $8.50 a quart. I guess Hyundai has to get money for their 100k warranty any way they can!

Any "SP-III" rated Tranny Fluid will do the trick. You do not need to go with the dealership/hyundai brand.

Amsoil has trany fluid with the same specs as what you want. E-mail them and they can give you the exact one for that.

How about Mercon/Dexron III? A guy at Advance Auto said it would work with no problems. Just want to make sure before use it...

Thanks!

9o7TiB7o9, if you are talking about the SP-III, as far as I am concerned, there is no advantage. It's a royal pain in the @$$. It's a dealer only item.

So, do y'all think that the Mercon/Dexron III will work? The HMAService Webtech said to use:
QUOTE
Automatic transmission fluid : GENUINE HYUNDAI ATF SP-II M.
for a 2002 Elantra GLS Auto. Should I use the Dexron or go to a different type?

Thanks,

Just went to my nearest Hyundai Dealer and bought some SP-III ATF Fluid. They wanted $5.50 eek! a quart which isn't as bad as $8.50, but is still worse than Dexron III @ $1.83 a quart...
