Default Auto Tranny Question

Anyone else with A/T experience what feels like a "downshift" while driving? Let me see if I can describe it.

I was driving last night about 65mph when I felt a very mild jolt. It felt like the A/T ECU turned off the O/D and set me in one gear, (3rd or 4th). I kept up speed but I could clearly see that my RPMs were getting up there. So I pulled over, turned the car off, restarted and everything was ok again. Which leads me to believe that it is computer related problem since it reset itself when I turned off the car. It's happened to me before but my old service tech couldn't find anything wrong.

Also can someone give me the link to the technical service bulletins available for the 99 Tiburons? Thanks.

*scatches head* Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

If you're gonna post a lame response, at least make it understandable.

he means that when you get on the gas in an automatic, the car will downshift to give you better acceleration, then when you let up it will shift back up into gear

Do you understande the words that are coming outta my mouth??? smile.gif

I thought I was clear when I said that it downshifted and stayed in one single gear. It felt like third gear because the speed kept up but the RPMS were rising and the A/T would not shift again.

I think I have narrowed it down to the use of the ECT in POWER mode. I left it in NORMAL mode and haven't had the problem since. Which still leads me to believe that it's an ECU related problem.

So thanks for your asst. STOCKER. Damn military folks.

This same problem is affecting me right now, but for me this happens in 2nd gear. I will be driving at a nice 40-45 mph then suddenly it will downshift into 2nd gear. They only way for me to get it to shift out of second gear is to get up to over 50+ mph ie or the rpms to near redline then it will shift into 3rd then i need to do the same to get into overdrive.

If i turn off the car then start it up again it will work fine for a few mins. then the problem will start all over again.

Only happened after i installed my 62.5 BBTB.

Did you have cruise control on at the time. Mine does that every once and a while. If you go up a slight incline it'll drop into a lower gear and then never go back to 4th until I turn CC off then back on.

Spatch!!

Why didn't you get the one with cruise?

My 99 elantra has had several issues with the transmision deciding to shift or not shift at odd times. They have replaced my pulse generators (yes that's what they are called) but that didn't help. The main thought is that the TPS is sending mixed signals to the ecu. There is a service bulliten about the Dasung (spelling) TPS causing this.

Uh, negative ghostrider the pattern is full.
