Default Auto Tranny Cooler

I was looking through Brendan's Site and had a few questions.
Thats a good faq and all, but where the heck do you put this thing? And where on the tranny are you running the coolant lines to/from? He says you can either run it inline with the radiator, or separate - if separate is it just the cooler with two hoses coming from the tranny? Anyone have any pics of it installed or more FAQs about it? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: Sorry if this sounds too simple, I've never even looked at my tranny before tongue.gif

It mounts on the front of your radiator. A kit will come with the special conectors with it that will pass between the fins of your radiator.
I ran my inline with the radiator. One line runs from the top of the tranny into the cooler. The next line runs from the cooler to the radiator. The last line runs from the radiator back to the transimission. On my application I left that last hose alone (ie it's still the stock hose).
The stock hoses are right on top of your transmission inside the egine bay. I beleive they are labled in and out. They will most likely be right under your CAI (if you have one) or the stock air box may be in the way.
Also the kit will come with basic instructions on hooking everything up.
BTW Cringe I work in Addison if your ever in the area and want to take a peak at mine. I also picked mine up at pep boys for 20 bucks.

I've done this too with a 20 dollar cooler from Advance Auto. You want the aftermarket cooler to be the last in line before the transmission. I think that helps cool better because it doesn't run back into the bottom of the radiator and get hot again being next to the engine cooler. So, go from the tranny to the stock tranny cooler then to the aftermarket cooler back to tranny. I'll try and take some pics if I can tomorrow and post them on my website...

I would pay $80 bucks an get a nice beefy tranny cooler, and link it up so it does not run with the factory tranny cooler.

I may do that with mine. The auto tranny does get REALLY hot even with easy driving. The one that I have has just 4 tubes I may go higher than that since they are pretty easy to change out. Does anyone know if the cooler will void the warranty though?

The manufacturer of my cooler states in the instructions that it will only void the warranty of a car if it is not run in line with the existing cooling system. Now if you decide to run it as a stand alone cooler it could void your warranty. It really depends on your dealership.
If you are running it as a stand alone cooler you will want to get the biggest one possible. Depending on the size of your cooler you may have to add some fluid after the install. All transmission coolers are based on the gross weight of the vehicle. A cooler designed for a Ford 1 ton truck that tows a travel trailer will be substantialy larger than one for a standard car. The price difference is not so great that buying the larger one will break you.

Make sure you get the SPIII fluid rather than dexron mercon. I went to my dealer and the parts guy gave me a quart for free when I installed my tranny cooler. I may add another cooler to the setup I have already just to be safe rather than sorry. :-)
