Who makes the best street performance clutch for the 2001 Tiburon?

Same for the flywheel, is theHDK Flywheel the only one that is avaliable?

Clutch choice depends on powerplant. (how much HP and how you are applying it).

The best "streetable" clutch is the stock unit, no doubt about it.

I think either HVE and/or RPW also sells lightweight flywheels. They might be more expensive than the HDK unit, but I personally, trust HVE/RPW more than HDK to deliver a quality product.

In a few weeks I'll have my custom aluminum flywheel done, its being made by Fidanza. The price should be around $440.00.

HRD, which generation is that flywheel for? After around 03/99 the flywheel design changed on the BETA engines, and previous engines will require a funky spacer thingy to make it work.

I might just buy a Fidanza, they're good stuff. What's they weight they're aiming for?

Red and I looked into this some time ago, but we could not find another 3 people.

Then 2Uniq and I tried it, but we again could not find another 3 people.

How in the heck did you get them to make just one for you? *boggle*

That's not too bad of a price. That's also a reputable company I believe.

Fidanza is the best in aftermarket flywheels IMHO. I tried their site and emailed them, but to no avail. If they are made for the 2001, this is the choice pick, and under $500.00 is a good price.

They told me that they had recieved so many calls on it that they would go ahead and make me one for the saleing price. They said that a lot of people had promised to send a flywheel to them but nobody did. The flywheel is for the July of 1999-present Beta engines. In order to fit the old crank turn out the flywheel pilot to fit a 41mm crank pilot and mill off 2.5mm off of the mating face of the flywheel. The weight should be around 8-9lbs.

I spoke with the rep for Fidanze for about 20 minutes at the SEMA show. He sounded VERY interested in making the flywheel for the Tibs. We'll be carrying them on the site as well.

Now, can you enlighten me more on the differences between the newer and older flywheels?

I will also have a new and truly functional damper and pully assembly in about a month and a half. If anyone would be interested, it is a true friction damper, so it will dampen over multiple freq's, not just over a narrow band like a elastomer damper. The damper would be very useful for you very heavy nitrous and turbo users.
By the way on the new cranks they changed to flywheel mounting flange, the flange is thinner 18mm and smaller 35mm pilot, over the old one which the flange was 20.5mm and a larger 41mm pilot.

The new crankshafts (P/N 23110-23710 for the 2.0L); P/N 23110-23510 for the 1.8L) released July 8, 1999 have the following dimensional changes.

A. The flywheel mounting flange (pilot) diameter has been reduced from 41 mm to 35 mm.

B. The flywheel mounting flange (pilot) height has been increased from 4 mm to 6.5 mm.

C. The crankshaft rear flange thickness has been reduced from 20.5 mm to 18 mm.

D. The crankshaft rear flange bolt hole depth has been reduced from 15 mm (± 1.5mm) to 12.5 mm (± 1.5 mm).

NOTE
The new crankshafts are not interchangable with the previous ones. However, a crankshaft spacer (P/N 23112-23900) can be attached to the new crankshafts to make them interchangeable with the older flywheels.

FLYWHEEL AND FLEX PLATE

The flywheel and flex plate assemblies have been changed to fit the new crankshaft. The new flywheel and flex plate assemblies are not backward compatible with the older crankshaft. However, the older flywheel and flex plate can be made interchangeable by mounting a crankshaft spacer (P/N 23112-23900) onto the new style crankshaft.


A. The flywheel and flex plate assembly pilot bore diameter has been reduced from 41 mm to 35 mm.


B. The flywheel pilot bore depth has been increased from 5.0 mm to 7.5 mm. Dimension B is recessed.
