6speed box on a 2k Tib?
Hi all,
I know that someone mentioned this when talking about dropping the new V6 engine in an older Tib, but I wonder if anyone has looked to see if it is possible?
Could you fit the 6sp Manual transmission into a previous version Tib? I know the gains would not be spectacular, but it would be a cool thing to see if it could be done.
Looking forward to the replies.....

With $$$$$$$ anything is possible. But I doubt its just a drop in.
The 6sp matts to the V6. not the I4.
If you kept the I4 you waould have to somehow make an adaptor to go from the I4 crank and fly wheel and also the bolt patteren (I think) is different.
Can it be done yes.
But why. The ungodly amout you would throw at it would be more then a turbo. (and I mean good turbo with huge gains)
Just my .02Cents

The four cylinder engine is a BETA; the six cylinder engine is a DELTA. The bolt pattern likely doesn't match up, the flywheel/clutch/pressureplate size is different, and the total length of the tranny is likely changed so that it mates with the (slightly shorter) engine block and still fits under the car.
Well, guessing anyway wink

This is something that I have been thinking about for a while too...
I understand the difference in the Beta and Delta engines, but we need to remember that the Delta engine is availble with both a 5-speed and a 6-speed. Now it makes me wonder why Hyundai would make two different 5-speed transmissions for the same car. That means that if the 5-speed transmissions are the same for both the Beta and Delta engines, then the 6-speed in theory should bolt up to the Beta engine no problem, correct?
I also know that the size of the cars plays a major role in the swapability of the 6-speed to the first and second gen tiburons. But, again, with $$$$$, anything is possible...
wink

No he is right. I saw one with a 5spd..
V6 GT with the 5 spd box...
Like 1500 cheaper.

Even hyundai admits it

The 6-speed won't fit in the engine bay of the older Tiburons.
Red is right, cause I had looked into it for the Sonata, and Elantra. It fits nicely in the Sonata, but its too long for the Elantra (Elantra and Tiburon share same platforms).
The ____ rods are longer in the 6-speed then the 5-speed. I don't remember the correct word now since it was approximately 3-4 monthes when I looked into it.
Best way to prove what Red also listed about different transmissions, I recommend going to your Hyundai dealership and ask for the part numbers for the 5-speed Sonata V6 (may need to go back to '99-'01 style), and the Tiburon any year 2.0L Beta of the parts listed. You will find they are all different.

Or if you're ambitious you can visit Hyundai Parts Online and dig until you find the numbers. smile.gif You can even order them if you really want to.

They did not make 2 new trannys for one car, they took the 5spd from the santa fe, anf made a new 6 speed. This is something that I have been thinking about for a while too...

winkBut I am going to look at putting the 6spd a 200 tiburon come june 22nd, I will be taking lots of measurements.

SPIKE:
The five speed delta is known as the "sprint" edition... the reason Hyundai made it was to aspire to tuners on a budget and can't afford the luxurys of a six speed.QUOTE

ARE U MENTAL?? Ur joking right, sorry but ur WRONG!!!!!!!And am I mental? Only half the time... wink tongue.gif

Ahhh... that makes much more sense... I didn't realize that the Santa fe came with a manual tranny... maybe that will be my next ride... They did not make 2 new trannys for one car, they took the 5spd from the santa fe, anf made a new 6 speed.
