Default 5-Speed REBUILD

I had posted a while ago about my 2nd gear synchro not working right.
Well, i took it to AAMCO and they checked it out. It looks like it was time for a rebuild. About $2210 is what they said to bring it up to par. I just couldn't believe it but hey i can't just replace 1 synchro! I'm getting a whole new set of synchros, a new 2nd and reverse gear (on the same shaft), new bearings, clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, some other stuff i can't remember but i need and a ClutchMaster's STAGE 1 clutch kit.

BTW, is the ClutchMaster's STAGE 1 kit any good? By Thurs, i should be up and running. i guess i find out then!

Well, how may i go about contacting HVE? I doubt i'll be able to get this tranny anyways 'cause i already authorized the work and i couldn't delay the need for my daily driver. $800 sounds really good but i didn't know the extent of my damage until someone could open it up and that costs a LOT of money. If i told AAMCO to just pack up the tranny it would have put me out $500. So really i would've spent $500 just for someone to tell me i needed a new rebuild. Not exactly a cost effective thing to do. So they pretty much had me locked in. Sneaky people aren't they?
Besides, don't the '97 1.8l have a separate kind of tranny that has a shorter final drive than the later model 2.0l? I think i remember hearing about this and my gears feel pretty short as they are. Hopefully it'll stay that way after they rebuild it.

Oh yeah, i'm not covered under warranty 'cause i'm a second hand owner and my car has 91k miles on it. I was told the warranty covers up to 60k for 2nd hand owners.
