Default 1st gen tib gear changing

I know i am gonna catch hell from everyone about it but....oh well i guess....my car is an automatic(not by my choice) so rather then changing it over to the 5 spd i figured i would hold off....at least for now....i read articles about the gear box on the 5 speed is a common prob but anyways....i am curious as to what kind of modications to my gears in my tranny i could possibly make.....i want it to be higher thus making it shorter to shift....i am not too familar with tranny work so i am in the dark....i have a good friend with a tranny shop so if something is possible i am sure i could get it taken care of...pro's please help

well, what did you mean when you said you want it "higher, so it's shorter to shift?" whether you want taller gears or shorther gears, you could get a different final drive from k-spec. i've toyed with the idea of making my gear ratios taller, but i need the power to necessitate that, first. if you wanted to get all new gears (for whatever reason), your friend should be able to help you. all you need to do is get him or a machine shop to figure out what gear ratios you need, and then get a machine shop to make them. if you know the trigonometry (i'm pretty sure it's not geometry at this point), you could figure out the ratios on your own, or you could use the gear ratios calculator at www.smokeemup.com just play around with numbers until you get what you want.
