There is a little pin that came loose



has anyone had this type of problem before?



i had to stop driving today cause my shifter stopped working, i couldnt shift from front to back but side to side movement worked



upon further inspection, a little pin seemed to be loose, after messing around with the little pin, it seemed to have came loose somehow. the pin falls out easily and I managed to fit it back in to get the rest of the way home, as the shift assembly wouldnt seem to hold together to shift properly if jarred too much. anyone had this problem before? :unsure:

The picture is for something else, and of something else, but illustrates the point. Look down under the red circle, where the corner of the black electrical connector is pointing, and you'll see the small end of a pin poking through a bracket. The squiggly thing is a spring-loaded retaining pin.



If your fally-out bit is the pin I'm thinking of, there should be a hole through the end of the pin. There ought to be ANOTHER pin to hold the bigger pin in place. A spring pin as shown or a cotter pin will do. In a pinch, a bit of a bent paper clip or a nail or even a stick would probably hold till you got to a place where they sell the right retaining pin.

 

i hit it a few times with a ball peen hammer and it just went in

the notches on the sides were probably for assembly purposes
