1) Which provide better handling?
2) Which provide a smoother ride?
3) Why in the world do coilovers cost ~6 times as much as springs?

I have Coilovers on my GTI, they handle amazingly, better than friends with Springs in the same model GTI. That dosent mean they out perform all springs tho. I love being able to adjust the ride height.
Personally I think springs give a better ride from my experience, my coils seem to bounce more than most like, but it all depends on brand. A lot of guys at work find my car very uncomfterable because of the ride quality, but It dosent bother me one bit
I was just thinking about a new suspension for my tiburon today actually, looking for an old thread I started but couldnt find it in the suspension board...

It depends.
A 'coilover' is just a spring with a shock absorber, most have adjustable collars for height.
So I mean, is a spring of unknown rate fitted around a worn OEM shock absorber better than a spring of unknown rate fitted around a cheap shock absorber of unknown rate?
Just how long is a piece of string?
