Default Inner Tie Rod Question

What goes bad on inner tie rods? They're basically just a threaded rod that connects the outer tie rod to the rack, so I'm not sure I understand how they go bad. I know the inners are turned to adjust toe, but do the threads get worn or something?

My outer TR boots cracked so I'm going to replace those, but arent sure if I should do the inners too while I'm at it. I know you need the special wrench to change the inners and I'd like to skip it if it's not really needed....maybe just replace the 11 year old corrugated rubber dust boot?

Replace what is worn out unless you are made of money. If you can make it move with your hand strength, replace it. Otherwise leave it.
