I was looking through this forum and didn't see any tire review threads. I'm now on my 3th set of tires for my rims, which are 17x7.

First set was Nexen N3000's in a 205/40(not my choice). They were fairly decent, very recommendable in wet weather. They worn down rather fast IMO. But overall a decently priced and reliable tire. I can't remember a whole lot about the ride quality, but with a 40 profile, it was a little rough to say the least.

Second set was Kelly Evo 2's in a 205/45. I regretted buying these a week later. Very noisy, terrible in the rain. They gripped rather nice but they wore down with a year! They did get tracked twice tho. Finally down to cords, i took them off and put the stockies back on.

Finally have some money to throw around and i really miss having the rims on there. These are what i just purchased through a local dealer

Hankook Ventus v12 evo's

I'm getting them mounted and balanced on Saturday. I've only found positive reviews on them, besides the tread pattern for the "lack of" water jackets. I will post my opinions after a week on them

I was just curious as to what tires everyone else was running, or have run in the past, and how you like/disliked them???

 

maxima has had

toyo proxes 4s

pro: great tire, very low road noise, grippy, good in snow/rain(with common sense)
con: lasted 34k miles(and im a tire guy, rotated and balanced every oil change, did my own alignments every 6 months)

current set
bfg gforce sport a/s
pro: almost NO road noise, slightly less grip than the proxes, i have 10k miles on them and they still have 9/32s of tread, great in rain, havent driven in snow yet
con: could be a tad grippier but oh well, it holds the 250ft/lbs of torque easily

hyundai:
khumo 712s
pro: cheap tires, good in rain, good in snow, lasted 50k
con: had to be easy on em in order to launch

goodyear eagle rs-a (i think)
pro: lasted long time
con: bad in snow, bad in rain, bad in hard launch, bad in hard corners (get my drift)


Mickey thompson et drag sport compact
pro: slicks
con: slicks

currently on some 225/50r15 maxxis maz4s on stock rd1 wheels
no pro or con yet cept it was a b*tch to mount em

and to the OP
those hankooks are decent tires but EVERY one i ever installed where a little out of round
even with a good balance it still shimmied a little

 

Accent-

205/40/16 Falken Azenis RT-615's
Pros: great lateral grip, surprisingly good treadwear, very predictable when warm
Cons: horrible when cold, so-so in rain, can overheat and get greasy, doesn't make noise until you've exceeded available grip, not a lot of grip for launches
Overall: great compromise summer tire if you autox a lot, otherwise I wouldn't recommend them.

205/40/16 Toyo Proxes 4s
Pros: best gripping 3 season tire I have owned, decent treadwear, good tracking, low road noise
Cons: literally melted them at my second autox
Overall: I would recommend them for a DD that's driven hard sometimes but never on a track or autox.

215/35/18 Zexius xi 326 (Falken Ziex xi-326)
Pros: good grip, nice ride quality for a 35 series
Cons: none noticed but I drove the car pretty carefully while they were installed. No red flags though.
Overall: they seemed decent, far better than the POS Hankooks they replaced.

Tib-

215/45/17 Nitto NeoGen
Pros: good grip, low noise, good treadwear, good ride
Cons: not as much grip as some max performance tires
Overall: I would recommend them

 

Nitto NT-05 275/40-18's all around.

 

3rd season on my Nexen 3000 and going strong. They came on the rims, so I won't say anything about price as the whole deal was $750 shipped to my door. Are you running these year round in Albany!? I go about 6x6mo. switching between summers and winters, and average 300mi per week. I just replaced the stock Michelins last season with some Toyos for the winter months, but they had 5 years of use on them.

 

I'm running N3000s myself, 205/40/17. They are an okay tire, definitely much better that stock. I chose them because they came $100 shipped Yes, $25/per
Toyo Proxes T1R would be my 1st choice. I use them on the 944, running 205/50/15 on the from and 245/45/16 on the rear. They are smooth, very little road noise (much unlike the nexens), and great for all weather conditions. On the track they were nice and grippy, but given a good amount of torque the rears could still break free at will.

 

Nitto Neogens. Great tires IMO. Good life and great grip.

 

God no, ole girl hasn't seen a snow flake in years. She hibernates in winter time and my f150 gets to ride in the white stuff

 

Just to give a quick update....i love these tires.

Only seen the rain a day or 2 but it handles great in it.

Absolutely amazing in cornering, and i couldn't ask for more grip

NO road noise and the profile is surprisingly forgiving with the 17's

We'll have to see how well they track

I'd recommend these to anyone for a DD tire

 

i've ran hankook K 106's for 3 years now, on my second set. first set lasted almost 30k but were cupping pretty bad cause i wasn't paying attention to alignment ( i know what to look for now).

the gf's new mazda 6 has the ventus in a 18" tire, i'm thinking 225/40 but i haven't checked, just picked her up today,lol.]

i recoomend hankook's to everyone i know, good tire.
