OK guys - especially Jer,
This happened to me 5 years ago when my brother ran the car off the road - front lefttside cradle damaged and crossmember damages. Locally our hyundai market support isn't big, or even existant. Thus, foregoing the option of spending 600us for the cradle at the dealer, and a further 3000(no typo) for the cross, my then Mechanic told me that alot of hyundais have mitsu interchangable parts. - Bear in mind it was then almost impossible to get a used one - The Mechanic then went to our foreign used town here in Trinidad & Tobago called "Bmboo Village" and came up with these replacements.
The crossmember of the Mitsubishi Galant 92 to 98 replaced my damaged cross "BOLT FOR BOLT". no modifications, no adjusting sway bay, powersteering, brakes, interlinks or any other item that we may think of (as I could imaging the number of questions which one may consider). I consider it also an upgrade because of the greather load bearing capacity of the Mitsubishi Galant. Kilo for Kilo/Pound for pound. You guys do the reseach.
Next the cradle arm. Again the main bolts went in just fine,. the only concern was that the Front sway bar link was on a strain. We then carried it by the local machine shop and they machined it so that the link was in the exact spot as to original. If you consider your Cradle/Control arm as a boomerang as I do, what they did was make the boomerang angle tighter by about three eighth of an inch or so. Has worked just fine no camber, steering, knocks etc as one may ask. One note however, that used cradle I have on has never needed a bushing change.
Furthermore, I discovered that the Mitsu Lancer Ball/C.V. joints are the same since I used a pair( I'll save discussion for the drivetrain forums). Secondly as we all should know, just for those who did not, the mitsubishi standard oem and ralliart type oil filters are interchangable, I have also done this and am doing this right now with a Lancer K&N oil filter. Mitsu pressure plate and other transmission parts are interchangable, no adjustment. Various bushings. Definately we know about the radiator hoses and radiator being interchangeable. I just I thought I would mention a few and will spend some time on these topics for the community later on in the various forums.
Regards, Steven
