Default Tire Help Urgently Needed

O.k., short description this time =)

Had to do a panic stop on the interstate today, and i blew out one tire and the other one (front) was almost bald and got a wear spot to the metal. (the 2 rears are fine)
I'm replacing the tires tomorrow morning, and my only option is sears auto center. The only tires they carry in my 2k stock size (195/55/15) is the michelins that came with the car.

I need to know what other sizes will fit on the stock rim, no suspension mods, or lowering done at all. Sears has tires close to the stock size, either a different width and/or changing the aspect ratio. I would prefer to get something a lil beefier/stickier than stock. The reason is, the stock michelins are 145 each and sears has others close to the size range for a GOOD bit less.

So anyone know what sizes will work on the stock rim???

thanks yall,
Chris

I looked into this myself... seeing how the tires look a lil too small for my tiburon... I really didnt find much.. except the stock ones and what you're talking about... If no one knows much here, or doesnt respond to you, just go into pep boys or something and ask them yourself.. I'm sure someone will help you. If they aren't morons.. but the technicians know what they are talking about. Ask one of the guys in the body shop. Welp, I hope I help a LITTLE.. smile.gif tongue.gif

Would a 195/6015 be too high for stock rim/suspension??

195/55----107.5 sidewall
195/60----117.0 sidewall
differenceX2----20mm taller overall

i seem to remember that its 20 something mm to an inch(too lazy to look up conversion)

I'm not worried about mileage, just need new tires.

Why would you want to increase your sidewall size? That would be horrid to your handling.

I'd recommend either 205/50s or 195/55s (like stock).

Check out http://www.discounttiredirect.com , they have some better prices. $145 per tire is a rip off.

Dude, go to Pep Boys, they have that special of 4 tires for $99. That is so much better than $145 a tire. If you can't get to a Pep Boys, Sears does sell a Falken tire in the close to stock size ( maybe a little thinner on the sidewall ), and a nice Pirelli. I went to my local Sears to check on winter tires on my stock rims and they looked in the computer and found a bunch that were lower profile but fit my stock rims. And they were performance. They quoted me a price of $86 per tire for the Falkens in the stock width and profile. Personally I would rather go to Pep boys and spend $99 for 4 tires and wait for something a little better until I get a better set of rims or until I had a little more info. Then if you have a winter with the salt and $hit they put on the road, you can switch to your stock rims and don't have to worry about messing up your new tire/rim combo. Good luck though and let us know how it goes!

Well, i have to go to sears, b/c i have NO money, and my gramma is letting me put them on her sears card. the 195/60 was for one of the performance tires. also sears.com only shows 2 tires in stock size, both michelins. the only 2 in 205/50 are dunlop's for over 100 bucks apiece

would increasing the sidewall hight +5% do THAT much to my handeling???

Not much, but your car will look really screwy with 55's in the front and 60's in the back. BTW...those tires will screw up your speedometer by -1.90 mph at 60 MPH, so throw the 60's on the rear tires and put the 55's on the front if you can.

Use this to calculate which tire size is best without throwing off the speedometer. http://www.c5-corvette.com/tirecalc.htm

I would reccomend a 205 50 15 tire rather than the 195 60 15. http://www.c5-corvette.com/tirecalc.htm

I think he means take off your back tires, and stick them on the front, and get your new ones, and put them on the back... so you dont screw up your mph and what not.

Basically what I was trying to say is get 55 profile tires if you can...if you MUST get 60's, put them in the back.
