Default Adjustable Shocks

Just wondering who has aftermarket shocks or struts and which make and model they are.

I got a 1997 Elantra and I want to put something in there that i can adjust.

I heard that Koni makes em, but I'm not sure. All feedback is appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure on this...but I think KYB makes some also. Bilstein makes adjustable shocks too..but they're VERY expensive. They'll run about the same price as a set of true coil overs. rolleyes.gif

adjustable shocks came on my suv (i got it used). you can tune them from caddy soft to speed racer firm. i don't think they actually lower or raise the vehicle, just adjusted the travel of the shock. the best thing about them is that i can adjust them from inside the truck. peace. i have to go outside to check but i think they are kyb.

You're not adjusting the travel of the shocks. What you're actually adjusting is the valving inside the shock.

The valves allow the oil to pass from one side of the shock to the other, thus providing the damping and rebound of the shock. By using adjustable struts, all you're doing (in essence) is adjusting how much oil flows through the valves at what speed.

The only adjustable struts available for the tibby/elantra are the KYB units. They are $140 each, and they require that you reuse the stock spring perch. They are a major PITA to install/remove parts off the stock units, but they are rather good.

Various different adjustable suspension/coilover systems are available from korea, but how much do you want to spend? They start at about $1200 for adjustable coilovers that are a BITCH to adjust...and then there is the HVE adjustable struts and spring combo for about $2000 US dollars, that is very high quality, and rather easy to use.

The Koni Solution will run you about $800 installed, and that's reusing the stock springs. The Eibach setup is non adjustable, but very good, for about $650 for struts and springs.
