Hi everyone, I was thinking of putting 17x8 inch wheels on my 01 tib but I'm unsure of a few things, thought you guys could help. I looked around the forum but I didn't see anything really that would give me the answers I need. I'm pretty picky when it comes to my cars....want things just so-so, and I'm sure quite a few of you feel the same way. I'd like to make the wheels fairly flush with the fender, I don't much care for the way the wheels are tucked under so much, especially in the back. What offset do I need? Would I need spacers? What size tires? It's at stock height with 205/40/17's. I'm not brilliant when it comes to figuring offsets and such, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you definitely need to roll your fenders in order to use 17x8 rims, also you might get some rubbing against the plastice inner covers inside the fender, and you need to have stiff struts and springs like coilovers.

Seeing as you are new here, I'll try to answer nicely... lol

Tiburons have this thing where big wheels like to rub into nothingness. 17x8 will most likely be too big unless you roll your fenders and get some spacers. I'm not saying they for sure won't work, but a nice set of 17x7 will suffice man. That's what I just got. Put it this way, I have 205x40x17 size tires. If you go 215, you will rub from what I hear. That's an extra, what, 1/2"? If you add another inch of rim itself, you will be putting probably 225-245 tires on the thing, plus probably a taller tire, like a 45. That won't work man.

Do a couple searches, this topic has been covered probably 100 times, and that's not exaggerating. Do a 17x7 with the same tire setup as me, 7.5 max, but get the KYB GR2 struts and a set up eibach springs. You will be in love man.

I just made a thread in the exterior section about my new rims, check them out if you want.

The easiest solution would be to throw on some 15mm spacers but I don't see a problem with fitting 8"-wide rims. I'd go for a +35 to +40 offset. You might need to roll the guards out if you're closer to a +35 offset though.

The hardest part will be finding suitable tyres as our wheel/tire combo is relatively tiny. If you can, get some 225/35-17 tyres. I don't think there are too many on the market though. Otherwise, you should be ok with some 225/40 tyres; just know that your speedo will be out by a few kays. They'll fill the arches out more too, which'll be good considering the fact you're not lowered.
