Hi everyone! Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum, this seemed like the best choice..

I have a problem with my passenger-side front wheel. I can sometimes hear a short noise, something between a crack and a screech. I doesn't seem to be coming all the way to the wheel, could it be the driveshaft? Noise is short, and usually happens when the wheel is turning or when it goes over a small road imperfection. It seems pretty random, and there are periods of time (5-10 days) in which I don't hear it at all, and other periods when I hear it very often. I seem to hear it more often after I hit a bump or park/turn on a bumpy road.. Also, I'm not sure about this, but It *might* be happening more often when it was raining.

I took it to a dealership once, and they said they checked it and they didn't find anything (and that particular day I didn't hear it either). They just said it might be the steering rack but it's sometimes normal for it to make noise.. They were nice enough not to charge me for checking it though, I'm wondering if they really did check it hehe.

Any thoughts?

Thank you very much!

it could be a CV joint?
get a passenger to listen out the window for a noise while you drive slowly. if you here a quiet tick-tick-tick... noise then I would bet its a CV joint.
unfortunately, I don't know what you mean by "something between a crack and a screech."

It's hard to describe.. it's almost as if a piece of metal hits another piece of metal. Or like the sound you make when you crack your knuckles, except louder and not so short.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that.. I'm suspecting that there's no such tick-tick-tick sound when driving, but I will check it.

My car does the same thing. It happens when the nose goes down like turning or when the wheel comes up from a bump. I belive its my strut and it could be yours as well. Try tightening the top bolts to your struts but not too much. just turn it enough that you dont have to try too hard.

I've tightened the 3 bolts around the top of my struts and It helped quite a bit, the noise doesnt happen as much. I have yet to tigten the middle one for the top of the strut, I'm not sure how to. What I mean is whether I take out the gunk first or just shove the socket in over the gunk.....

You mean those bolts which strut bars are tied to ? (not that I have a strut bar..)

So i tried tightening those nuts. I used a small hand-wrench and I was able to move them a little (very little). One of them (that closer to the firewall and the side) I was able to turn more than the others (still just probably 10 degrees or so). The ones on the driver side seemed tighter (I didn't try very hard, but they seemed a lot harder to move), so you could be right!
I drove it hard a bit and it didn't make the noise, but like I said it's very random. I'll see if it makes it again in the following days, and let you know.

Thanks dddude!
