i got a call from my buddy who was gonna spend part of the weekend in miami he asked if i wanted to go i said "sure". since he was driving i left the betafish (jdm fighting fish) at home safe and sound-... or so i thought. went to miami spent the night there, nothing too exciting, came back home the next night. i got in the house and greeted my mom who was nearly in tears. she said "i have some bad news". i started to really worry, i thought someone died by the way my mom was all shaken up. i asked what happened and my mom started to explain that as she was backing out of the driveway, she hit my car. i was partially relieved that no one died but i ran outside w/ a flashlight to see the damage. as my mom was backing out she managed to turn the steering wheel in such an manor that the rear fenderwell on her car grazed my fender and door. the damage is pretty minimal. no dings or dents but a large paint scuff. my mom knows how much i care about my car so she was so scared i'd flip out but i didn't-... i mean it's my own mom and there's very minimal damge. she told me that she tried to buff it out but she couldn't get it out, and that she was gonna call me to tell me what happened but was affraid that it'd ruin my trip (which it would've). so when we looked to see the damage to my mom's car (which was alot worse than mine but alltogether very minimal) my mom was telling me how she lost sleep over it, and got into a bit of an argument w/ my stepfather over paying to get it fixed. me being the smartass that i am couldn't help but resist-... in a very calm, serious, yet soothing voice i said "mom, don't worry the insurance company will take care of it" and my mom said "but that's going to make your rates go up" i said "no it won't. it'll make your rates go up and you'll have to pay the deductible"-... (i was joking of corse but mommy didn't know that) the look on her face was priceless. the look of being stabbed in the back by your own son i'm still laughing just thinking about it. after telling her that i proceeded to burst out laughing and told her i was just joking not to worry about it. after that i've been giving her a hard time since with "you know that's considered leaving the scene of an accident. did you exchange information w/ the owner of the vechile or at least leave a note" (kinda funny cause we're on the same policy). so even though my car did get hit and i didn't get to recieve any outside insurance money, i'm ok with it-... i'm not delighted but ok with it. it could've been alot worse but i couldn't help but feel bad for my mom's sake. i'll have to get some bondo and touch up paint for her on mother's day! possibly one of those really wide rear view mirrors.

LOL, that's pretty funny. You should break it up into paragraphs because It's kinda hard to read like that. It should be like 10 paragraphs.

renminds me of when i trusted my sister just once. i left to florida and felt bad that if something happened to my sister i would give her my key in case of strict emergency. i told her, "don't take it out, don't drive it unless it's an emergency". we were on good terms for a while so i tossed her my key.

come back from florida and didn't notice anything from the back. then my sister tells me she parked it out on the road and in the morning a garbage truck hit it. the damage was bad, fender, bumper, hood, radiator support brace were all bent up, engine was making funny cranking noises. MAN i was PISSED. i didn't believe it one bit because why would she park on the street when we have an empty 4-car driveway overnight? plus garbage trucks would leave a note. plus damage didn't look like any garbage truck.

month later her boyfriend calls and tells me the truth. they were driving drunk and thought it would be funny to hit an empty trashcan. trashcan wasn't empty and they totalled my car. on top of that, the sunroof and roof is bent. i suspect while drunk they fooled around through it and sat on the roof. ever since then i don't ever trust my sister with anything and i don't trust anyone with my car.

later on my sister crashed her tiburon into a pole in the snow. luckily my guy fixed both cars under her claim. unfortunately i still have a bent up roof thanks to my drunk sister.

hope everything gets worked out man, and hey it's better an older daily driven hyundai than a brand new porsche.

Ok Steve's story has a nice lovable family theme to it (and is very funny by the way, sorry bout the car but I know if that happened to me, just playing a trick on my mom like that would have made the whole situation better).

HKC's story however makes you wonder how thick blood really is. I would disown my sister for something like that especially for lying about it. I mean the drunk driving is bad enough period but to do it in your car, hit something with YOUR car, and fool around on the roof of YOUR car. Wow, you seem to have taken that much better than I would have. I don't think I'd ever trust her judgment again.

Once again though Steve, good thing the damage is minimal cause that would have torn your mom up if it was a pricy fix. Is it anything that you can replace with aftermarket parts? Cause in that case you might owe your mom a thanks for giving you a reason to upgrade!

could've been worse. she could rammed into it and made it a pancake. good thing it's pretty minimal.

it was kinda funny/odd, because karma seems to get me no matter what i do (and i am generally a good person). like while i was in miami, me and my friend went to a grimey little pub and they never started an actual tab or even took our debit cards. so i looked to my friend and was like "man we could do a drink and ditch". after 5 drinks TOTAL we had to go put money in the meter so i gave them my debit card and asked to close us out-... bill came and i picked it up. just because i even thought about doing the ol' drink and ditch my bill came out to $65 for 5 drinks! karma strikes again! well to get a lil back on topic.

i actually did the same thing in my first tib to my old co-worker's elantra. luckily the damage was only on my car and minmal at that (as i throughly inspected my co-worker's car) but i never told him. guess this was payback.

wow hkc you are a better person than me cause just hearing that i'm even pissed at your sister. that really sucks and it still doesn't sound like a trashcan could do all of that-... maybe a dumpster but not a rubbermaid type of trash can or even one of those metal ones, but does it really matter she trashed your tib (drunk) at that, then lied about it.

rarerolla- yeah my mom was sooo upset about it because she knows how pissed i get if anyone does anything to my car. my stepfather intentionally bumped it once, and i flipped out (if he would've said sorry it wouldn't have been as big of an ordeal but instead he pretended it never happened and lied to my mother about it) and she knows i still have yet to forgive or forget about that. so when got home she was devasted. but seriously to say my car got hit is an overstatement-... more like rubbed. i'm no body guy but i'm sure it could get wet sanded or buffed out. i'd bet (at worst) it only went through the clear coat. i've been more pissed if i'd been door dinged or the victim of a shopping cart. aftermarket parts are a lil out of the question, unless we're actaully getting carbon fiber doors, fenders and i win the lotto . i actually have a replacement fender (same color and side too) for a project i was thinking about. if it's that bad i throw the other fender on (if that one is any better).

dtn- yeah i didn't realize it was so jumbled but learn how to read-... JUST KIDDING of corse but i cant seem to find the edit button. i'll see what i can do.
