Sometimes I Wonder Why....
well... i love my car... i truly do, but sometimes i wonder why i put up with some of the crap it dishes out at me.
about a year ago my mum wrecked my car... not her fault... wheel bearing went out and broke the CV joint and well yea... wreckage. it was fixed and everything was fine up until about two weeks ago when i noticed that when i turn to the left at about 20+ mph there is vibration coming from my drivers front side. i go on with the vibration for a week and have it looked at finally... no good. they couldnt find anything and told me it could possibly be the wheel bearing but they dont think it is. ok... so i take it to the people that fixed it after the wreck today and they cant find ANYTHING... but they did inform me that my rear brakes need replaced.
OK DID I ASK FOR YOU TO CHECK MY REAR BRAKES... NO!!! i already knew about that problem... but it seems they were awfully worried about that since they got me an estimate on how much it would cost them to do it. umm no... dont think so (150 bucks for the rears)
that moves me into my second problem... my rear brakes.... yea. so one day im drivin and and i hit the brakes (not hard or anything... just braking normally) and there is a terrible grinding coming from my passenger rear area. so i take it as a warning and let it go for now... well it does it again. I looked this thing over a thousand times... cant find a damn thing wrong with it.
here is my plan... im changing out all four rotors and putting in all new brake pads (preferrably hawk pads and EBC rotors) but im not 100% sure what im gonna buy yet. and as for the other problem... one of my buddies thinks it could be in the transmission... oh boy.
which brings me to my third complaint... my clutch is now starting to slip... ok yea now im pissed. i dont drive my car hard at all... in fact i baby it. most of its mileage is highway miles.
why does everything happen all at once... its crap... yea.

No worries man, you'll be happy when it's all fixed. They are all normal wear items bro. And yeah, a bunch of them can go at once. LOL
The rear brakes on the tib are known for doing that.
Sometimes they get stuck and grind, basically it's because 90% of the time theyre hardly being put to use.
All you need to do is take them off, clean the calipers and use some copper grease then put some new pads in.
Also because of the lack of use you may have some rust build up on your rotors.. no probs just crack it off the edges of the rotor and give it a good gentle scraping smile.gif
New rear pads are $9 for semi metallic.. if you dont know how? learn. SCREW paying $150.

That sucks; but it does sound like regular maintenance problems. On my tib, they pretty much happened all at once too lol.
If you get them fixed all at once, itll be all good. If you can fix some of the problems by yourself then do it. Itll save you a lot of money.

i've got a friend who knows how to do brakes so i will probably have him come over and help me do em. problem is i need new rotors too and those can be a serious pain to get off... as for the vibration... im just gonna let it go. most places will just want to replace everything until they find the problem and who knows how much that will end up costing.
my rotors are on the way out too man, im bout to just get some ebay drill/slots and call it a day. expensive rotors still end up getttin replaced so i just buy the ones that are good enough. hope you get your ride fixed man
doing the rear brakes involves undoing 4 bolts, its nothing anyone on this site cant do. even if you have never done it, you could do it in less then an hour.i say just knock it out yourself, its a good way to start learning how to work on your car.
