I've b****ed about it before, but I just have to vent again. Here it goes...

The guy who sold me the tib can suck a big one. He hasn't returned my calls or e-mails in God knows how long and today I called, it was answered and hung up in under a second. Sooo... I called around and it's going to cost me $517.50 to get this SOB titled and registered under my name. :3_frown: Damn, I guess it's gonna stay lookin' ugly. All in all, including the cost of the car, renting a truck, all the parts I've bought, and the stuff I need to buy, the car's gonna cost about $8K and that's with no body work.

Yeah, it'll be quick, reliable, etc. But $8K for a 10 year old hyundai that needs every single body panel replaced isn't exactly the steal of the year. It took me 30 minutes to put freaking stock corners on because I had to adjust (bend) the fenders to get things to line up, break off brackets he had put on the car over the hole the stock corner slides into (can't figure that one out), etc.

I guess there's a time in every build-up that pisses you off and makes you second guess yourself. All will be well once I can drive the f#$%ing thing. mad.gif

Well, you can't get around the title thing, but I would contact ebay or paypal and let them know how he misrepresented the car. Leave him a message stating so and I bet he'll call you back..fing02.gif

I think I will, but I'm one of those people who can't be an ass. Like the few times I have talked to him since I bought the car, he's really apologetic and has a million excuses so I say "I understand, but I need it done now". Plus, he did say in the auction "proof of ownership is an SCCA log book" to cover his ass. I understood he didn't drive the car on the streets, but what am I supposed to do if I ever need to prove I own it? Show them an SCCA log book with his name on it, along with discolored white "Rick Frank" you can read from the sticker on the driver's side. Even if I was going to use the car as a "track only" car, I'd still need to change the title over to my name.

Oh well, what can I do? I have to pay it, but that money could have gone towards an evo hood sad.gif

Dmitry, the body panels have all been replaced with shoddy body work. For example, the driver's door was replaced, but they didn't bother switching the locks out so I can't use my key to open it. When I got it, opening the hood was a two man job (JonGTR fixed that for me though). The rear bumper has broken tabs and is held on with a zip-tie. The above-mentioned misaligned fenders, hood and rear-passenger quarter panel pounded in, etc. The pictures/description on e-bay did not depict this condition.

I would definitaly get the title transfered from his name to yours.

If he lost the title, he can get a duplicate from the DMV for about $40. Then he can transfer it to you.

Like I said, I don't think you'll find a way around the title transfer thing, because it was stated that it was a track car and he told you before hand he never had a real legit "state" title, right?
I was talking about the body. The condition of the car pictured in the auction is NOT the same condition as it really was. That breaks several of ebay's policies I'm sure, and if I were you I would get at least SOME money back. That's BS. You should be able to get something out of it, if anything, document and take lots of pictures and if he refuses to help pay for some of it take it to small claims court. Also make sure to get a copy of the auction+description. You don't have to be an ass dude, simply tell him he needs to refund you some money or this is what you're going to do. Its his fault for misrepresenting the car, and he knows it, that's why he's ignoring your calls. He's HOPING you'll just let it go. If it were me, even though it is a big hassle, I'd do it just because it will teach this asshole a lesson and get you some money back too.
good luck

Did you pay for car not looking on it?

Can you get your money back? Maybe write a claim to paypal/ebay?

Honestly, I think the car is well worth what he paid, but the hassle of the title is NOT. He really needs that and to not have to pay $500 for it. That's BS and he's getting the runaround.

Chris, give me a call.

Yes, but it's not any responsibility of the original owner to help the buyer sort things out with the title. It was clearly stated that there was never a state title because it was a track-only car, therefore it is the buyer's responsibility to establish just what steps need to be taken and how much money it is going to take to get the car registered and the title in his name.

However, the way the car was represented in the pictures and the way those compare with its current condition are completely different, and that is against the law.

I beg to differ. The car was originally sold with a title. This is not a kit car nor is it a race car built from the ground up with a tubular chassis. Since this car did have a title, the original owner can state the car was stolen, show the title to the authorities, and get the car back. If he owned the car, he should have the title. If he lost the title, it is his responsibility to get a duplicate from the DMV.
