Living In The Middle Of Nowhere
I live in Wyoming, the butthole of the universe. I get a lot of questions about my car, most of them start with, "What is it?" "Hyundai," I say, "Tiburon." And every single time they reply, "Oh, you mean Honda. Never heard of a Tib... er... something, must be a new Civic, huh?" And being a the calm person I am, I imagine their head exploding and then correct them. Then I have to endure nasty looks at the mention of Korea. But anyways, I put up with this everyday, I'm used to it.
But finding parts... That's a whole new level of pain. It took me 3 months to get a rear wheel bearing nut from a Hyundai dealer. A Hyundai Dealer had no clue what I was talking about. Even with a part number. But I dealt with it. Today I gave in a tried to get my exhaust manifold replaced, as per the recall notice my dad found out about. So I drove 2 and a half hours to the nearest dealership, sat for 15 minutes in the lounge only to have the mechanic tell me they didn't have one in stock, and then had to drive 2 and a 1/2 hours back. And I get to do it all over again next week.
In a nutshell, I hate living in the middle of nowhere. mad.gif

that sucks.
I understand you. When I search for parts or talk about my car if I say HYUNDAI like it should be pronounced - almost everybody ask - HONDA??? so I need to pronounce it like [HUNDAJ] mad.gif
When I go to any tuning shop and ask something for HUNDAJ they almost laugh... like we (tuning shops) have parts only for serious cars.
also a lot of people here (in UA) believe that Korean cars are crap mad.gif

i had an experience very similar to Dmitry's with the performance shop.
i bought my car June '01 and when i went to a performance shop a few months later to ask what performance parts i could get, they replied "NOTHING". i asked how to go about finding performance parts, he replies "GET ANOTHER CAR".
those are direct quotes from that guy. i don't live there anymore, but when i did and anyone asked where to get performance parts from i said anywhere but that place. tongue.gif

I hate that. There's not much in this part of Ohio and I'll take my car in somewhere and they will ask for the make and model and I'll be like Hyundai Tiburon.. and they are like Honda Tiburon?? I just repeat.. no.. it's HYUNDAI! Makes me really mad.

In my old town, which is pretty much a very highly populated town, people have no idea what my car is. Up there, no one can AFFORD Tiburons, which is sad. They aren't too expensive. They ask me what it is all the time. However, they won't mistake it for a Honda, because everyone up there has one... whether they are crappy boxes on wheels or riceburners.
Here's something funny:
I went to this pool hall in my town with a few friends one night. The owner of the pool hall came outside, went up to my car, crouched down, and stared at the Tiburon logo. He then sees my autostart my car and asks "Is that your car?" and i said "Yeah." and he said "What is it? I've never seen it before!" and I said "It's a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon." and he said "It's gorgeous! It must have cost you a fortune! I bet it's about as much as a BMW or Mercedes, right?" and I just giggled and said "Yeah, uh huh."
