As you all know, I have not been able to drive my car for 2 long weeks and I just got it back a few days ago. Just about an hour ago there was another problem with it, and it's REALLY beginning to make me question the quality of the car in general.

I was pulling into a drive-thru at Wendy's with my girlfriend and when we pulled up to the window, we both heard a high pitched sqeualing sound.. almost like hot water boiling. I did not think much of it at the time; I thought it was something inside of the building. Then at the next window I heard it again, and thought that maybe it was my car?

I then reparked next to a couple of friends when they both noticed there was steam coming out of the right side of the hood. Immediately, I turned off the car, and put it in accessory so I could get all the heat out of the engine. It was then when I knew something was wrong. My friend and I opened the hood and heard a bubbling sound coming from where the engine coolant/power steering (about 99% sure it was the engine coolant)

Then we noticed there was a green fluid seeping out the right side of the car. A LOT of it too. I think it was most of the coolant. I do not know what could of happened, maybe a hose? Don't they replace the hose for the 60K mile tune up? I believe all fluids were checked less than 2.5K miles ago, so I do not think it was the lack of coolant. My guess is the radiator hose..

I am in a terrible mood right now. I feel like my car is just breaking down on me, and these things keep springing up out of nowhere. I might have to sell the car. Maintenance is a b**** with the Tiburon.

Any words of comfort and/or comments would be greatly appreciated.

 

I can't help you with your problem but I can say this:

1.) it's definetely your coolant that boiled over. Power Steering Fluid is black (unless you buy the ricer blue fluid like Faith). and coolant is greenish.

was there too much coolant in there maybe? I really have no clue what coulda caused that.

2.) I have gone through so many troubles with my car since the beginning but slowly after hard work the problems are dwindling and the finished product is slowly coming into view. I'm happy with all the work I've done and feel i really KNOW my car now. It's helps to work on it yourself. I say stick to it and get r' done and you'll be a happy camper in the end.

btw, how many miles?

 

Yeah, I'm pretty sure about it being the coolant.

Too much coolant? Well the coolant that was in there was there for almost 3k miles already, so if anything it was too low. But seeing how MUCH of it seeped out, it makes me wonder if they replaced it or something recently without letting me know.

I do not know what kind of problems you are running into with your car, but this car is seriously beginning to rip a huge hole in my wallet mang. Like if it was an f-ing radiator hose that caused it, c'mon Hyundai! You just had a good look at my car.

63k miles exactly. I feel like I've been f***ing cursed or something.

I mean, who knows how much this is going to cost. I just spent maybe $700 on the wheel bearing/axle/new tire and whatnot, and now this crap.

 

could be as simple as needing a new radiator cap wink1.gif

 

Possible problems are a- shit hoses, b- shit radiator cap, or c- overflowing coolant.

did you pay attention to your temperature gauge in the car? Your car overheated.

Change the radiator cap ($5 @ AutoZone) and make sure you have plenty of Coolant in the resevior, since you lost some. Make sure both of your fans are working. One works only with A/C... the other kicks in after your car has warmed up to normal temp. If your A/C is off, both fans will kick in if the car gets hot enough.

1. Replace Radiator Cap ($5)
2. Put more engine Coolant in resevior. Make sure it's green. Add a little water if you don't have any coolant readily available. Water is supposed to be mixed with the coolant anyways, so that won't hurt anything. ($10)
3. Check Fans (Free)
4. Check all hoses going to and from radiator for cracks or obvious wear (Free)
5. Change thermostat ($4 part but may cost a bit to have it done, find a friend who can show you how to do it)

Yes, I did check the temperature gauge as this was happening and the needle was at the very top (inbetween the red margin) and just as I noticed the car was overheating is when I saw steam coming out of the right side of the hood, right where the coolant is.

Is the AutoZone part better than the OEM part? Something tells me those little OE parts that Hyundai gives out are cheap as f***.

I have a bad feeling that almost all of the coolant is now gone. THAT is how much leaked out. Hmm, it COULD have something to do with the A/C fan. Funny that you mention that.

Almost all evening I was running with the A/C on 1 at the coldest setting. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Ack, I just had to wait for the tow truck in the parking lot where it was and I decided on getting it towed to the Hyundai Dealership. Kind of a stupid move seeing that tomorrow is Sunday. I couldn't even get into the lot, so the car is parked out where the show vehicles are. LOL, I hope I don't get towed AGAIN.

Better call Hyundai first thing tomorrrow.

I hope these problems can be fixed ASAP.

A/C fan probably doesn't have anything to do with it.

I hope you used Hyundai Roadside Assistance... you do know that you get free towing, right? It's part of your warranty.

OEM parts may possibly be better than what AutoZone carries. I would actually trust OEM before AutoZone on stuff like thermostats and stuff....

 

Is it possible that your reservoir just cracked or was somehow punctured?
