I have a pair of Velox VX-8 rims that both have a slight bend in the outer lip of the wheel. I was looking at my car to day and got to wondering if this is something I could fix myself. As I said, the bends are very slight (both still hold air). Is this something I could fix with a mallet? Or am I just asking for trouble trying to do it myself.

youre asking for trouble. i would spend the 75 or so it costs to get them repaired correctly. with a mallet you cant be sure its in acceptable balance.

probably not. not with mallet. altough pics will help.

you need to roll them on special equipment. sometimes rim should also be heat.

better if shop will do it.

If there is very small bend - I would go and just rebalance it and put on the back of the car

Actually, I was going to get them re-balanced once I did this. Still asking for trouble?

usualy it should be very big bend or crack so that tire will not hold air.

Can you take some pics with what you have? That will help to understand your problem.

you might not be able to get it balanced without using an absurd amount of weight.

Definitely go to a shop... You could make the problem severely worse if you go swinging at them with a mallot.

Alloy rim should be heated when repairing. Best way - go to shop, they know what to do.
