Search engine placement

So, it was recently mentioned by someone that our search engine ranking is dismal. I hadn't looked so I went and checked it out and found that on many search engines this is true. Several pages into Google results for "Hyundai Forum" We had not showed up even though Solstice and Honda forums were.

I have a little experience with this, I got our work website to rank on the first page for many searches on many engines without spending any money. I started some of that same process for HA today so hopefully we'll start ranking better in a few weeks.

I did get an error though for some submissions letting me know that our robots.txt file isn't present or isn't set up correctly. Then I got to wondering whether the search robots are able to crawl through the site since people who are not logged in are not. Maybe the answer is yes it's all working fine, but I don't know and wanted to ask. I don't even know how to set up a robots.txt file properly so I wouldn't know even if I saw it.

I do have a robots files, but for the main site. I havent gone through and did anything for the forum yet. Also, we do have robots and spiders that index the site. You see them from time to time in the online list at the bottom of the page.

I have alot of experience doing SEO and getting top placements, and its not that hard. I just need to take a few hours and do it. *lol*

Alexa ranking means more than you relevant page searches...download the alexa toolbar for firefox (sparky) and set HA.org as your home page, and see your numbers come up...plus more relevant link from other sites to here and or vice versa will boost page count on Google. That is about all you can do next to paying for a sponsored link with-in google.
