Thanks to GT5 and Red Bull F1's designer Adrian Newey, this is what he believes the fastest racing car would look like with modern technology and no rules to hold it back. Images taken from a CAR magazine article in the UK.

Specs:
* Engine: gas turbine, 1483bhp @ 15,000RPM, 527lb ft @ 12,000RPM
* Transmission: continuously variable, rear-wheel drive
* Top Speed: 249mph
* Weight: 545kg
* Length/Width/Height: 4750/2180/980mm
* Suzuka Lap Time: 1:11.540 (compare with Vettel’s 2009 F1 lap time of 1:30.833)
* Special Features: enclosed wheels, “fan element” to increase low and medium-speed downforce (much like a vacuum cleaner)

Yup, that's it! VERY minimalistic, everything designed perfectly aerodynamically. And at 1200lbs?? That's insane.
Gas turbine was an interesting, yet good choice. Almost 1500hp makes me drool too...
I'm curious as to what's holding it back to 250mph though. I don't see why it couldn't get closer to 300. Maybe the tires? Can't image it's power or aerodynamics.

Is that for real, or is it something that someone just dreamed up?

I mean, if this is just a video game, then who's to say that it's actually possible?

Its something somebody dreamed up within reasonable limits. Though, there is another direction that it could go: a body made out of movable control surfaces.
