Some autocross questions
 

I've been looking into getting into autocross the last couple of years and I've got some questions I was hoping you guys could answer. I've got an beta swapped and boosted 02 accent (which is a DD). I'll just list off my major questions. I've done my fair share of searching threads here on HA, but I figured I would just see what the community had to say. So, I apologize if these questions have already been asked. Thanks!



-I've seen that the SCCA offers classes a few times a year around my region (I'm in the southeast), is this worth doing? I'm a good driver in my own opinion, but I have no experience racing as I am not the type to risk my life on the public roads.



-Is the SCCA the way to go in terms of Autocross, or are there better/equal clubs? For the SCCA members, whats the best route to take to get into SCCA racing?

The SCCA is the most widely available sanctioning body that does autocross. Your options locally will vary. For me, SCCA is the most expensive option and I can run 19 events per season without ever running an SCCA event so I only hit a couple of SCCA events per season normally if it's something special or just really good timing.



If there is an option for a novice school I think that would be a good class to attend. There are novice schools through a couple of my local clubs but not through my region of the SCCA. Yours may have something though. I don't think that a novice school is required to do well, but the learning curve is a bit steeper if you're figuring it all out as you go. There are also advanced autox classes, such as those offered by the Evolution Performance Driving School. Those classes really help, but are spendy.



The best thing you could do is show up at a couple of events. Everything else will fall into place.
