I don’t have a helmet and this weekend Im going to a track. Is it a mandatory thing or can I get away with doing a couple of runs without one? I don’t have some 10 second killer. Is it a per track type of rule or do they all usually follow the same ordinances?

 

Track and sanctioning body rules vary. Contact the track or whoever is putting on the race before showing up.



If you race without a helmet you are stupid, BTW.

 

All tracks have different rules, some don't require helmets for anything 14 sec or slower, some require all participants wear helmets.

But if I remember correctly IHRA and NHRA both follow same rules for when a helmet is first needed. Rules state you are required to use one if your car goes faster than 14 seconds quarter or 9 seconds eighth. Or if you have a convertible, sunroof, t-tops or targa tops.
