First Autocross event!

So here in Calgary I've been watching autocross for a bit over a month, and at todays event I decided to register to actually drive it.
My accent is completely stock, and the times were 2/3 seconds slower in the beginning because a fatass wanted to "Help" me improve my driving - he didn't know that my car was a 1.5l torque-less monster tongue.gif Anyways the fastest lap was done by a s2000 in 45.959, and my fastest was 56.593! 11 seconds off, but oh god i had so much fun, trying to find some wheels that are 14 inches then going to get some r-comps.
Here were the rookie pax scores also tongue.gif

OH LLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDDDD D

Congrats, dude! You must be a good driver. I wonder what your time would be like if they put you in a BMW M3.

hehe thanks but since im the youngest guy there and rather new I wouldn't risk it.. It was also that lame drivelogic version (not real standard tranny)

I need to get more power out of my car though, if someone wants to hop in for a lap it would slow my time by a few seconds..

Congrats!

You must have done well. I'm usually still about 10 seconds off of the fast time of the day.

Power is always nice obviously, but I suggest against it. If I was you I would look closely at the rules and build the car for a class, or at least take classing into consideration when building the car. It would be tempting to find a set of Accent GT springs, run some Koni yellows and some R-comps and stay in stock class. Stepping up to FSP is a big (expensive) step if you're wanting to be competitive in an Accent.

Yeah I'm staying in stock, so I can replace tires, and the springs I guess, I was looking at the koni sports but I'm not sure if I can justify spending $1000 for suspension parts while the car I have is worth 3.5 tongue.gif

187sks 07-26-2010 03:17 PM

Yeah, you could get away with replacing your springs with the stock Accent GT springs, but not aftermarket.

Yeah Konis are expensive, but no more so than doing I/H/E a lot of the time.

Malkith 07-26-2010 04:19 PM

With the GT springs, they are just stiffer I presume?

187sks 07-26-2010 04:50 PM

Slightly stiffer and slightly lower. Not a lot, but all you can get away with in stock class.

Ah okay sounds good...
That course looks pretty fun! Its big compared to the one over here, I'll try to get a video next time I go (rally cross this weekend!! go go winters )

What tires are you using?

187sks 07-26-2010 06:38 PM

Yeah get some video!

That was the smallest course I've ever run actually. It was a ton of fun though.

That was a couple of years ago. I was running Toyo Proxes 4 tires at the time. I completely melted them at that event and ended up buying some Falken Azenis RT-615's. They're good for running in street tire, and they've held up phenomenally well (2 full autox seasons plus 30k miles or so already) but they're no R comps.

Here's a video from our local region's longest course. It's from my first time at autox, and on the Proxes 4's also.

And here's one from this year's slush series (I was the slush series champion in Prepared C) on the Azenis.
