braking

hey guys

i was watching some race vids the other week, i love watching the foot cams on the differnt styles of foot work.

any way i was noticing how some kick the brake pedal just before they need to brake hard. iv had it explained that this is to clear any crap off the rotor so the brakes can work 100% when applied a second later. is this correct?

also would this be worth while on a spirited drive off the track?

last question, how hard does it need to be kicked?

You sure you're not seeing them kick the throttle? To downshift, you rock your foot to the throttle to match revs while braking.

Depending on the speed and corner I will occasionally stab the brake to start the car rotating but I can't think of a situation where I would do that and follow with hard braking.

It may be to shift the load and set the suspension.

The fastest drivers only ever smoothly ramp up the brakes. Anything other than this is simply wasting braking distance.
