I read something similar to this before, I hope it wasn't already on this forum.
It's easy to sit idly by while WalMart abuses it's employees and suppliers and what have you. You can simply say "I dont shop there cuz it's a shit hole" or "at least it's cheap" or whatnot. Or it's easy to suck it up and just pay high gas prices despite record profits by oil companies because you can just say "oh thats business" and its kept in check barely by supply and demand.
But no matter what lake you live on, how many porsches you drive or what conservative upbringing you've had, I think you can all agree that this is not something anyone wants. Excuse even the fact that big corporations will start to own the internet. Forget Maddox having a bigger influence than mcdonalds on the web. Maybe that type of thing doesn't concern you.
But at the very least, I'm sure you all will be very saddened when you lose the ability to download music or watch free and user created content. Isn't that what makes the internet so great anyway? Whens the last time you did something worthwhile on the internet that was produced by a corporation? It's all youtube and ebaums and somethingawful and bittorrent. It's all free and user driven.
Imagine the internet where it's one big AOL and myspace shithole because some tool at Time Warner or Comcast or whatever happens to own half the internet's backbone.
Maybe it sounds like this is some crazy liberal ranting, but the internet has been unchecked for over 10 years now and it's probably one of the best things we have going for us in society right now. there are downsides such as everyone being a f***ing attention whore and procrastinating, but the business and artistic abilities and efficiencies of the internet and the wealth of knowledge and DIY entrenpeneurism has been a great thing i feel... it would suck balls if it was squelched.
ps. this + trusted computing = the biggest bullshit ever.

Net Neutrality is going to be a hot topic in the coming years. I suggest you all get familiar with it if you haven't already.

I agree walmart sucks, I never shop there and often make fun of people who do...
anyways I think that net neutrality is a problem but I don't there it will get to the point where any company can just start blocking stuff.

Well if anything, whenever some large business tries to monopolize something to hoard all the profit more Napsters, Firefoxes, Linux's, and such are created. The will be something to this effect if folks have to start paying for something they've gotten relatively free for years.
