Anygood? I have a ship date for the 6th of sept, but I've been having doubts if its what I want to do... can everyone who is in please post the pros and cons of military life...
I have a ship date of Nov 21st for the Air Force. Do you know what job you are going into? The only thing that is worrying me is if my girl and I could still stay together. I have been wondering the samething about military life.

I did 11 years in the US Army and am proud of it. Times can get hard but you learn how to live a fuller life if you've been in the service. I've got several friends in the Air Farce, 3 of my best friends are in it.
You 3 know who you are, bastards...
LOL
Anyways, it's about sacrifice. You have to give up some time that you'd spend with your family to help out the country, but you usually get plenty of time back. The benefits can be outstanding, the pay is pretty good after you stay in for some time also.
Just keep your heads up, remember why you joined, and think POSITIVELY.

Then why did you?
I might be mistaken, but from the sounds of your first post, it sounds like you already did (thus the ship date).
I was this |-| close to joining the Navy. Seriously RIGHT after I finished at MEPs and was talking to my recruiter about job posibilites, I got a call about a job I had previously interviewed for that I really wanted. Though the recruiter knew I had the interview and wanted the job, he was PISSED that I did sign up that day.
He wasn't trying to help me anyway - kept trying to get me to sign up for whatever job was available, not what I was good at/wanted. lol I havn't looked back since.
But anyway - if you've already joined, than I guess there isn't much more to do then wait and hope you like it. Surely can't back out now.
^^That's what kinda happened with me. I got a job that I didn't want. I was looking for something that would put me in the air. Since my whole goal is to try to be a pilot and get a better education. The job I got was in fuels. I wasn't too excited about it, I know I could have refused it and tried to find another job, but after thinking about it it would give me more time to go to college and not have to worry to much about my job.

No worries, get in, finish your training, and become an officer.
There are LOTS of programs for that.
Besides, Officers that used to be enlisted usually make the BEST OFFICERS.
Back me up guys.
LOL
Anyways, Recruiters will do what they can to get you into the service, that's their job.
They shouldn't lie to you (mine didn't), but they will take advantage of your excitement. YOU NEED to be the smart one and pay attention.
1stGenTibs, please then, if you joined for no reason at all, go talk to them and get out.
I'll be damned if I want folks that don't care about what they are doing to be protecting my rights and freedoms.

although doubts do happen, it seems like you're pretty stuck into it. you're signed up. they own you. haha
i was as close as joshuwa was. i went to MEPS, did my physical. however, my RO never told me that i was supposed to be sworn in right after the physical. he told me that it was just to see if i was in good enough condition FOR the military (Gaurds). i had to find that out from someone in my hotel. so, after the physical, i saw him, told him i will NOT sign up cuz he lied, and told him to bring me home. he was quite pissed... but he was a liar.
good luck!
