I wonder what type of things Comey will come out with now and tell the press about Trump.

 

I wonder what everyone else will start leaking, now that Comey isn't there to stick up for his buddies the Democrats any more.

People are comparing it to Nixon and Watergate.

 

...which is slightly odd, because Nixon didn't fire his FBI director and was only involved in the cover-up of a deletion of some audio. Even more odd because Clinton fired his FBI director, and Clinton's wife was personally involved in a cover-up bigger than the Watergate scandal, and even still more odd, because the previous occupant of the White House doing political spying Nixon's campaign people would have balked at - and there's no outrage in the mainstream press corps.



There is no comparison with Trump firing Comey, to Nixon and Watergate - unless you're the sort of person who assumes without proof that Trump is guilty of something related to Russia.



Edit to add: even Comey said Trump was within his prerogative to fire him.

 

Let the rationalizations begin.

 

Nobody liked the guy from any side, even the left. And everybody wanted him fired at some point in time. So why the hysteria now from the left?

 

Because candidate Trump thought he was the bee's knees. Said he was doing a "tremendous" job and praised his handling of the email investigation. President Trump also continued to have no problem with his handling of the case... Until Comey started investigating Flynn's connections to Russia. Now, all of a sudden, his handling of the case has "damaged the FBI's reputation". The problem the left has isn't with his firing. It's with the timing and the reasons given.

Doesn't sound like he loved Comey back then at all. In fact, he hated him for the Clinton email debacle. He hated him back then, and only tolerated him for the last 3 months. Liberals hated him, Republicans hated him. Undecideds hated him. I wouldn't doubt that he wanted to fire him from the beginning, but I'm sure he had his reason for not doing so, especially with a Presidency to kick off. He had better things to do than pile up more drama.



Fact is, it doesn't matter WHEN he fired Comey, he would have gotten backlash anyways. Day 1, today, or last day of Presidency.
