Stock Dodge Neon vs. Stock Tibby

Hey guys, one of my good friends at work keeps asking me to race him and I am more than willing.. but the one time that I was actually out driving at the same time as he was(he works graveyard, I dont), he didn't do anything, so we have yet to race. He drives a 2000(I think) Dodge Neon, completely stock and he keeps telling me that he would kill my Tib. I personally think he's insane, but I dunno. Just wonderin what you guys think?

If its just a Dodge Neon, not the RT, you'll beat his ass nice and simple. If it was the RT, you'd have a problem. I don't know if a tib [stock] can take an RT, [which is a turbo-ed neon]. If its an RT, it'll be a good race. I've never seen an RT race, so... smile.gif :D

R/T's are NOT turbo'd.

R/T's are just the 150 HP neon engine, vs the standard 130 HP neon engine

The Neon ACR's are the Neon's to watch out for. They have less equipment and less sound dampening and other light weight tricks. they also have the 150 HP engine.

R/T's do not have turbos but at one time dodge was thinking about making an SR/T which would have been supercharged, but they never did. a 2000 neon has 133 hp and 130 torque i think. i used to have a 2000 neon auto, if it is an auto you will defentily win because they are 3 speeds and the first gear was really slow. if it is an r/t it would be hard to win because they have 160hp with a 2.0 liter dohc

Dodge's first R/T's were designed with SCCA road and solo racing in mind. They had no a/c, no radio, and a host of other removed items. You could of course add these items. I beleive that it even had adjustable struts. They are very fun cars to drive but were put out in limited numbers. Now the R/T badge is more for marketing purposes. Random is right about( like there was doubt, watch out for the ACR version.

Ok, my fault. I thought I read somewhere that the RTs were Turbo-ed... smile.gif I never heard about the neon Random was talking about... hmmm, learn something new everyday... smile.gif

YellowTiburon 11-01-2001 02:09 AM

damn random, you beat me to it. the new r/t have 160hp, the 99 was 150. doesnt ACR atand for "american club racing"?

The Neon R/T and Highline or Sport share the same engine...a 2.0 DOHC 4 cylinder w/ 150hp. The baseline Neon has a SOHC with 132hp. Don't be fooled, I have driven both cars with each engine and they are pretty quick on their feet. I think the Tiburon can take out the SOHC engine easily, but the upgraded one may be a bit of challange. If the driver knows how to drive, I think it can be done

But as others said, The Neon ACR is the one to look out for. It has around 190hp.

Hey just wanted to offer my $2.50 worth on this topic

if you buddy does have a 2000 neon le or the new model neons then they are sloooooow, they come with 130 hp stock

if has an 2000-02 r/t then he will give you a good run as they come with 150hp same engine just a few more hp

now if you were to run up on an older neon the 95-99 sohc cam you will take them but they will give you a good run at 130hp

the DOHC neons 95-99 come with 150hp and they will run pretty quick

as for who will win that depends i dont know how much hp you guys have in your rides but aside from hp it all comes down to the driver and how good he/she is :D

ltr richard (NeonCanada prez)

Mark D' Shark 11-06-2001 05:57 AM

Tibbies rated at 140 HP Richard. I have ran into some pretty quick R/T's and will be the first to admitt that they are pretty quick. I'd tell you to race your friend only if you're confident with your driving skills. But why not give him a run anyways? Other that a little bit of **** talking what is there to lose right? :D
