This Is Something I Wonder About...
Camaros, TA's, Firebirds, Mustangs, Vettes, etc etc all look fast, sleek, and powerful. Why is it that most of them are driven by people who won't even use it to a pinch of their potential? I always see these people drive slowly... even on highways. They are in the left lane doing under the speed limit. I can understand that "better safe than sorry" method, but where is the thrill in having a fast car if you don't use it that way?
Another thing is... kids tricking out their cars. Yes, we have lots of fine tuners on this board and you all do such wonderful jobs... but I am getting to the point where I can't stomach people modifying their cars but not backing the look up with the performance. Like today... I saw an older... maybe 96/97 Civic with a pretty nice kit but those ugly rice lights. It had a coffeecan too. The girl driving it was on her cellphone and almost hit me by running a stop sign into my lane on the other side of the road. She then drove about as if she owned the road, cutting people off and driving aggressively. Now... why would someone act this way if their car obviously can't perform to the potential that is being portrayed in the actual LOOK of the car? Because as soon as she and I got on the stretch of highway, she gunned it and I still passed her without accelerating too much.
I hope you understand what I'm saying. I thought maybe some of you could help me understand better.

Not everyone buys a fast car just so they can drive fast. They may like the look, features, feel, handling... Any number of things.
They could just be posers too but you never know, maybe they're responsible & only drive fast when it's safe to do so... They could be weekend racers for all you know.
I know that with less than half of my points left on my license, I tend to drive a bit more cautiously these days... Maybe others do too.
As for tuners & ricers... Well... The difference is often a matter of opinion.
If they make you laugh/cry/seethe with envy... That's OK fing02.gif If we all had the same taste in things, the world would suck sad.gif

Those cars are also cop magnets... I would drive as normally as I could if I owned one too, When I used to drive my uncles 95 Camaro SS.. just about every cop I passed gave me and the car the once over.
I also tend to drive slow in the tib. I only open her up when I know I am no danger to anybody around me.
As for the other... not everyone wants power and speed... there is the term "lead sled" from the 50s and 60s that denotes a car that looks fast, but isn't

I drive like a grandma for the most part. I know that I can smoke 99% of the cars around me when I need to, but drive normally to save gas and not to get in trouble. It's just the feeling of having on the fastest cars on the road is enough to be happy, no need to show it off, IMO.
I use car's full potential at the strip though smile.gif
Yep, there's several reasons why people would want to drive slow, insurance payments can be high in those cars, they don't want to break the law, not wanting to get a bad reputation with the cops, saving gas, ect. Also, they may not want to screw up their cars by moding them as sometimes happens when you go that route.
I bought my car knowing fully well that it was not fast, but did LOOK fast - and I had no intention of modding it to be fast.
I don't drive 45 on the expressway, but I don't race it either.
Then again, I know exactly what you're talking about. What bothers me the most is when kids with big v8 pull up to a stock civic that looks nice, and the v8 starts revin and making fun of the civic. Douches.
Of course your car is faster idiot - you've got more than twice the displacement.
That's like Muhammad Ali (when he used to box) kicking the crap out of a little old woman, and then bragging about it.

The main reason why I bought a fast car was because I enjoy knowing that there is barely anyone that's faster than me. I don't need to prove it to anyone.
And I just enjoy driving it, and enjoy the feeling of being pressed to the seat when I drag race smile.gif
I don't hear about many v8 guys that come up to a civic and start making fun of it. yes, there is some stupid people with powerful cars, but there is stupid people with civics that rev at us big guys.... I have respect for all cars, especially fast one, no matter what it is smile.gif
