Schools using RFID to track students

It's for attendance in order to receive additional federal funding. I'd personally be opposed to having my kids tracked within the school. It's unnecessary and as stated in the article could and probably will be used for purposes not originally intended.
Two students and their families have objected and those students are likely to face expulsion for non compliance.

Oh yeah, because in a school of 1000+ students, the troublemakers will obediently wear their chips all the time.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Sure I wouldn't want to be tracked, but I might want my child to be locatable. I definitely think that the families that wish to not participate shouldn't face punishment for it.
