I watched some of it and I'll be honest, I'm happy for Meghan Markle. She broke a barrier that is uncommon in royalty and royal families.

 

What barrier is that?

 

There's been a lot of discussion about it and her breaking tradition.



1. She's bi-racial

2. She's not a royal

3. She's been divorced

4. She's an American

5. She's Catholic (Royals are mostly Protestant and are forbidden to marry Catholics until recently)

6. She's already wealthy and has made her own money

7. It's the first time in history where a Royal has married a woman and she won't be labeled as a Princess

8. Their marriage is forcing the monarchy to modernize

9. Kensington Palace has it's professional social media presence focused on highlighting the work of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry but Meghan is the first of the British royalty with her own Instagram and social media pages with millions of followers

 

All of that but #9 has already been done in the past only because Twitter wasn't around 20-2000yrs ago. I just watched a history of the Royal Family where they discussed how the UK was invaded and the throne was taken over by outsiders on multiple occasions. The so called "bloodline" is FAR from pure. It's had rulers from all over the world.

Yea, look up the lineage on Wiki to start. The family has married people from France, Germany, Denmark...... List goes on. I believe Normandy ruled England for a while.



My point is that the latest family to rule has only been in existence for a short period and even they have married into other countries here and there.

 

 

I find it interesting from a historical perspective. I found this family tree. The Braveheart movie is real. You can find Edward 1 Longshanks Robert the Bruce are right there. The family split up into Scotland and then distant relatives fought each other for Scotish independence. Amazing if you ask me. Of course now it's all glitter and gold BS but it's still nice to uphold tradition. I think it would be worse if the tradition was lost.
