heck if you don't like them that much buy a 50 or 60's model car, back then they didn't have em. but if you missed a shift at 6k with the pedal to the floor.... kaboom!!! no more engine 02.gif .
Heh.. my 75 Spider does not have a rev limiter.. and I have missed a shift at it's 6500 limit, shot it right up to 8 grand (high as the tach goes) with no ill effects. Remember though, that is not a boosted car.
hehe, well guess it depend on your luck, a guy I know blew up a nova in... the late 60s or early 70's. it was blown and ran something around 9 seconds. missed a shift, went to 10k (max on his tach) and blew it up. he said it shot the blower off the car 8O .

I forget the members name, but one of our members has an accent w/ a beta swap and is using the 1.5L ECU and says that that has a much higher rev limiter, AND so far has not had any major problems running the engine over the tibs redline. But i dont know just how much farther hes been pushing it.
That person is LarryMcfly.
I have heard rumours of such engines, I know that there is a video on a link that I posted here (RD vs R33) that had an NA tib wind out a gear that went FOREVER. Find the movie again man, I wouldn't mind seeing it.

It may sound neat, but it's bad for the engine and you LOSE power after 6000 RPM
yeah i think random tested this out already and thats the results he got.. i remember seeing a dyno on hp.com way before it was invaded by newbs
You may lose power after 6k rpms... BUT, in a road racing course, being able to hang onto a gear to 7 grand instead of 6500 would possibly be a help. There are time when you do NOT want to upshift or hit the rev limiter.
yea our hp drops at 5500RPM, but this motors hp started going back up around 8,000. Also i've missed a gear a total of 2 times my my life, and the tac jumped well past our 8,000 limit on the tach, must of hit at least 8500!

Random did all his homework on a hybrid 1.9L motor. [1.8L Crank, 2.0L Block]. With that hybrid motor and a stand alone setup the motor can Rev to 8K RPM safely and 9K RPM for special occasions lol.gif
The estimated cost for this work would rangge in the $4K - $5K [Turbo] since it a complete custom job.
The custom turbo cam set-up w/this hybrid motor will allow for good power between 4000 and 7500 RPM.
