Ok guys

im trying to back up my haltech map. Its a 6km extension.

I copied the file to a floppy from the laptop.

I tried copying the file from the floppy to my personal computer and it wouldint recognize the disk. I tried using the computer at work, and although it recognized the file and disk it refused to copy it. It just freezes...

I tried using command prompt. Command prompt/dos finds the file and disk. I tried to get it to copy it to the harddrive and i got this error

i inputted this

a:\>copy rddyno01.6km c:
and i got this

Data error <cyclic redundancy check>.

Translation?
I Really havent played with dos since i was like 12.

Anyone have any ideas? The floppy works fine.

Corrupt Data. It might not have transferred the file properly. Is there a good version of the file somewhere else? How large is file? Try e-mailing it to yourself, try other computers to see if they can read the data.

if the thing is small enough to fit on a floppy then just get a gmail account and email it to yourself

If the new floppy that you try does not work there maybe something wrong with the drive itself....

Seek an external cd burner if you know someone that has one and can work with your laptop seeing how old that it is.... just a thought trying to help.

what operating system? does it have a cd drive? usb?

there's a million ways to get that file off the laptop. easiest would be a floppy but it sounds like the drive is screwed. you just for easiness sake you might wanna try blowing the floppy drive out with some compressed air and maybe even get a floppy drive cleaning kit. that would save on alot of other issues, plus if this piece of crap... i mean pc is that old then hooking it up to the internet might just get you a virus and a pile of spyware.

good luck!

edit: i'm confused now, did you try another disk? do that first.
