Okay, I'm paying too much each month for this crap. With PVR rental and digital cable pack, plus my high speed internet, I'm paying like 110 to 120 a month.
I want to lower my bill, but I'm keeping the Cable Internet. What should I do? What are your experiences? Please vote, and tell me WHY? What do the prices go to after the first year at 19 or 29 a month? Also, any reception problems? How well does it work during storms and such? |
i voted stay with cable, becuase we switched from dish network to cable.
i liked dish network better than what all my friends had though, which was directtv. the menues and just all functions in general took a couple seconds to execute with directv, and not with dish. as far as reception goes, you might experience problems a couple times a year, but it really isnt that big of a deal. |
Jesus man, that's a lot of money for internet and cable.
I'm on cogecco Internet and basic cable tv. I also have Satalite so I dont use much cable tv. I pay 60$ CAN a month. What you can also do if you have the option, is seeing what your neighbour is using. Have a talk to him, split the bill and split the lines. Only downside is if he uses the net to download 10gigs of movies a day than you might get some shitty speeds. |
i'm up in alaska, so my bill is a little more expensive that what you would normally pay.
i pay $160 a month for cable, phone, and high speed internet. |
I pay about 120 a month, that is with Internet, digital cable with HBO, and voice over IP service. So you are in the right area for a cable bill. Experince with Dish companies is this, if you need to get service done, you will pay for it. With cable if you need service it is free, because it is part of the cable bill.
That is just my .02 though. |
I have DirecTV, i have no complaints. It goes off if its really raining extremely hard, thats it.

I've been a Direct TV customer for over 2 years now. I will NEVER switch back to regular cable. In the entire time I have had Satelite service, my reception has gone out twice and each time it was like for only about 10 minutes and it was back on. You're in a contract for the first year, but after that...its month to month. I have every single regular channel, as well as 4 HBO's, and 4 Cinemax's. My bill each month is $55 and has stayed that way for the whole 2 years. I also have this thing on my account which is an extra $5-6/month where if something happens to my service or the equipment, that fee covers the cost for a tech to come out and fix what ever the problem is. Just cheap insurance basically. Otherwise, without that monthly fee, its like $30 each time they have to come out. I've never had to have them come out, but like I said....cheap insurance. The install was free, the equipment was free, and I got 3 tv's (receivers) and TiVo boxes for each tv all for free as well. When I first signed up, they even had a promotion where when you signed up, you got a free DVD player too (not like I needed it, but it was cool none the less). smile.gif
They also have this thing where if you move, for $25, they will come out, disconnect you and re-connect you at your new home in the same day. Try getting the cable company to do that...all in the same day as when they disconnect you. tongue.gif Oh yeah...and every single channel is in HD. Not just certain ones, like Cable has. And since I know you like Electronica music Redz...they have like 20 Music Choice stations you get with the basic service, and out of those...3-4 are are electronica. Since you live in an area where you dont have to worry about snow storms or rain storms every other day, like in the North East...you really wont have to worry too much about signal problems. But like I said...in the entire time I've had it...only lost signal twice and it was for a short time. One was during a pretty bad rain storm, and the other was during a snow storm and the dish got covered with snow (just had to take a broom and knock the snow off, and I was good). As far as Direct TV versus Dish Network goes...Direct TV has better sports stations that you can order, in my opinion. But really...both services are going to be around the same price for their programming. One might just offer better promotions than the other. Just do shop around and see what they have to offer before making your decision. smile.gif |
I was looking at some flyers today, one of them has 70 channels of XM included. I'd love to have XM in the house without having to take it out of the car or stream it over the net.
I might have to go with that one. Keep them coming. |
Easy, Direct TV.
Ive experienced them all. Basic cable blows. limited channels, overpriced, no menu, looking at TV guides. Fvck that. Digital cable is O.K. compared to basic cable, still overpriced and not alot of options Cable all together has terrible customer service, absolutley terrible. Dish network suxors. some reports of bad customer service, shitty selection of channels, No YES network (for yankee fans) or other specialty sports stations, Also here in jersey selina's dish network constantly and i mean constantly cuts out - to like an aquiring satiellite signal message even though other channels are working, and it will always do it on the good channels on a good part of the movie your watching. Direct TV is what my family swears by, reasonable bill, great selection of channels including 50+ music only channels, all the movie channels you could want (i have like 30), 5-6 playboy type channels if thats what you want, YES network (hard to find), full selection of sports channels where you can watch ANY game you want. this is including college football, hockey, MLB, basketball, college basketball, and the big one that all dish owners who love football wish they could have, Sunday Ticket for NFL. AND direct TV really really has great customer service, where my dad lives in the boonies if he has any problems they have no problems talking him through it or coming out there. Not to mention hes not getting ass raped. |
I dont like cable..its so old fashioned lol. I remember when we had it at my house it use to go out a lot and we couldnt do anything about it. Digital cable is a little better but also expensive and if service goes out your screwed. Satellite is just the way to go.
Dish Network..Ive had it for four years I think..always seems to be a problem getting satellite reception. On the good channels too..like Im trying to watch this good show on comedy central and I go and turn to the channel, I get that retched error message that says the satellite reception has been lost. (!!!!) I dont know if its just in this area where we have the reception problems or not. You get a decent amount of channels but its expensive I guess. I pay $40 a month for I think 160? channels. Most are good but some are useless..I have four espn channels and if you get a higher package you can get seven. You have to pay five dollars more a month for local channels as well. You can get some good sports channels but its nothing to gloat about. You get like maybe 12 ppv channels but they have the same movies on like three channels so your not getting a big selection. Their music channels are from Sirrius radio. The remote is really straightforward and their program guide is better then DirectTV..bigger and clearer. I havent experienced bad customer service with them..every time I called them they were real nice. DirectTV Ive heard good things..never lose reception except maybe during a bad thunderstorm. They have XM radio for music..which I think is better then Sirrius. Ive only experienced this network at Alex's house but from what I saw it was real good. I just dont like their program guide lol. |
