I got my laptop back today. It got a new hd installed because the old one broke for some odd reason. Laptop works great so far. Im so happy to have it back because now I dont have to use Alex's computer. I paid only $172 for everything..and geek squad quoted me $229..so good deal.

I looked at Macs yesterday in an apple store at the mall and I saw the 12 in i-mac g4 and damn that thing was small. Everything on it was weird but it was familiar because I used Macs in high school. I dont know, Ill keep this computer for a little bit and then I might switch over later.

The computer guy got most of my files back..which were pictures, songs, and some documents. Actually I think he got all that I wanted back so im happy. He said my hd was so messed up it took him five hours to get any of my old files out. He also gave me my old hd back.

Well heres one good thing that happened and now Im hoping the next good thing will be getting my tib back. smile.gif

Btw, I want to thank you guys for giving me advice on computers etc. when I needed it. I really appreciate it. smile.gif

Is it hard to install a new HD on a laptop? Because its really easy for normal computers.

 

I think there's a lot less proprietary hardware out there now for laptops as far as hd's are concerned. HD's seem to be pretty standard. Although you're best bet is usually to buy a replacement from the manufacturer. But it's not usually necessary. And they are generally easier to install, imo.

I sell laptop hdd's (only western digital) 40's for about $80, 60's for about $100, and 80's for about $120.

then probably a couple hours of labor at 45 an hour. btw, he must not have charged you for retreival if it took him five hours! (aka, he thought you were hot)

oh and if you don't have any problems replacing a desktop hdd then you can replace a laptop hdd. really the hardest part is getting back that data and os+drivers and thats just standard everyday stuff.

I got a 40gb hd installed. He also installed antispyware, this virus protection program, java runtime and open office, and adobe acrobat 7.0. So yea, I guess I got some freebies there.

 

yeah looks like his prices are the same as mine after tax. those programs are all free. but yeah, you didn't get ripped or anything. glad you got your files back, he definently went above and beyond on that /w the 5 hours! the old hhd must have put up quite a fight for it to take that long!

And, for your info, a lot of GS agents are great professionals.. and unfortunately there are some morons.. same as in your business... so, please, stop bashing for you have NO experience with GS...

As for your Question, Whiplash.. no, its not hard.. but i wouldn't do it myself if i wouldn't be sure on how to...certain things are better be done by professionals..
