GOP question
Lets say the American people put all their votes on Trump and they make it known that is who they want for the GOP nominee. Now lets say the GOP says nope and they elect someone else that the American people didnt vote for. What kind of backlash would there be with Americans if this happened?

The candidate has to have something like 1200 delegates for that to happen, and I'm thinking Trump will. If it didn't, and they brought in someone like Romney, the sh*t would hit the fan. The party reps are stupid and have been going against the will of the people for some time, but I don't think they're THAT stupid. With all the bad publicity they've been getting lately, I think they're about to throw in the towel and let Trump have his way.
On the other side, the Dems are in the same boat. If the legal issues get worse for Hillary, they may bring in that guy we had for VP for the past 8yrs. You know, what's his name?

The GOP either elects Cruz or Rubio at this convention, or the GOP becomes a shell of its former self next time. The tone-deafness of the old guard republicans has got people thinking TRUMP is an acceptable alternative already - see what will happen if they ignore the people altogether on this point. I bet it's ugly for the national organization.

If Trump gets 1273 delegates, he is the nominee. The GOP has no other recourse. It's right in their convention rules. If nobody gets 1273 delegates, this results in a "contested convention". This is when the GOP can step in to try to broker a deal for Rubio or Cruz to give their delegates to the other one to "out-delegate" Trump.
