Default FCC releases robo-caller list

Seems the FCC is fed up with the complaints (hundreds of thousands) and since they are basically powerless to stop them, they are now releasing the robo-callers caller ID's. Talk about turning the tables...

If you have the correct software and know how, you can 'hack your own cell phone' and block robo-callers yourself

Could this not be one of the federal cost-cutting measures we're all looking to find? How much money is wasted so dozens of FCC employees can sit and receive these BS complaints. Give the people the ammo to fight back!

^^^ There aren't people taking complaints. When you call, you get an automated system that asks you for a bunch of info. A person never gets involved until they get thousands of complaints about the same number.

So regardless of the procedure you're conveying, or complaint quota, you're saying that the FCC DOESN'T have dozens or hundreds of people working on stupid complaints?

Yes. I'm saying they don't have anyone working on stupid complaints. They only work on complaints that have escalated to the point of being anything but stupid. If you've never been called by a robocall machine several times a day from different phone numbers despite your number being on the do not call list, I guess you might think they're stupid.

Yup, the whole situation with unwanted phone call solicitation is STUPID. It should not be the FCC's daily job to police these calls and require dozens/hundreds of employees to do so. It should be against the law, period. Therefore, stupid.

It is against the law. That's why they police it.

I seriously doubt they have any more than 5 or 6 people who work on this.

It would be really great if they outlawed spoofing of numbers. That way they couldnt use a million different numbers.

No, it's NOT against the law for them to call you over and over, as long as it's not in a "harassing way". They could call you every day if they want, since that's not the FCC's definition of harassment. It's only against the law if they do it AFTER you tell them not to. Even then, you better have some way to prove you did so, and know exactly who they are, if you intend to get any justice. And your justice comes in the form of a $1000 check from them, no more no less. Hefty fine, right? FCC gets nothing for their work. That's why it's so hard to get them to stop.

I've been down this road. I've contacted the FCC and know several other who have. Believe me, with all the replies people get, there's way more than a handful of employees.

Yes, it IS against the law if you've registered your number on the do not call list https://www.donotcall.gov/ (I don't know why anybody wouldn't). If they call you even once, they've broken the law. All telemarketers are supposed to get a copy of the list and remove all of the numbers from their robocall list. I've contacted them several times. You get a recording asking for the number that called you, the date and time they called and the name of the company if you know it. Once they receive many complaints about one company or number only then do they begin an investigation.
