Poor gull......... That co-driver would needed new underwear.

Alex01tib 02-28-2007 10:15 AM

LoL what a coincidence,

me and selina were driving to work today and we were going about 70 and saw a group of pheasants or something similar running across the road, two went by and i slowed to 55-60 and i didnt think any more were coming out until one came running real late (too late to stop) and ran right in front of my bumper and then he realized he wasnt going to make it and decided to try and fly, he got half a foot above the ground and slammed into the bumper, ouch...

luckily the 'lude was unscaved, cant say the same for the bird

SOCKS_old 02-28-2007 11:30 AM

ouch for the seagull and the windshield.. theres no way they could have avoided that, to try and turn out of the way at 180 would be suicide.

I'd say everyone learned a lesson there. Drivers and seagulls.

Drivers: Don't aim for objects at break neck speeds.

Seagulls: Stay out of the way.

Mad-Machine 02-28-2007 04:01 PM

I really doubt he was aiming. At 180mph, it is hard enough to see something the size of a bird and avoid it, let alone steer into it. Besides, what if that gull had gone into the grill? He could have said goobye to his engine in a hurry as it would have probably destroyed the intercooler and maybe the radiator. At 500rpms above redline, you know that turbo was pushing major air and heat into that intercooler.

And there is another lesson there.. this is why we have laminated glass on the windshield. Not only does it keep your face from being cut to ribbons if you impact against it, but it keeps things like that from coming into the cockpit with you. If that gull had gone through the windshield and impacted against the passenger, he would be needing more than just a clean pair of underware.

In a plane, the term "bird strike" comes to mind

Hobgoblin 02-28-2007 04:14 PM

Stupid British seagulls... Bet it won't have the guts to try and play chicken with a car anymore.

supercow 02-28-2007 04:20 PM

nasty! only hit a bird once, it got stuck in the top front grill. It was actually pretty hard to pry out of there!

demon_fox 02-28-2007 04:26 PM

not as bad as some bird strikes that happen with f-16 / f-15's man talk about bird sushi. lol
