No ****.
I mean...would this HONESTLY have been any better if this guy had written an editorial in the local paper, or something along those lines?

The Internet is used as a soapbox for a very good reason. IT IS A GOOD SOAPBOX. People needed to know about the experiences that guy had at the dealership. and, judging from the responses, he was by far NOT the only one. It's not like his claims were even necessarily the worst story posted in the thread!

I hope the dealership loses the suit, although they probably have enough money to buy some really shady lawyers that can pull things their way. The only real consolation I guess is that, eventually, the dealership will lose so much business that it will crumble, or get sold to new management that will turn it around. ::

Mark or anyone in the Marietta area...anyone know how the hearing Monday went?

I actually live in Canada and heard about this through NeonCanada.com. But if you read the thread (19 pages eek.gif ) it says that Jim Ellis had dropped the law suit! What choice did they have? rolleyes.gif .

Jim Ellis was just trying to pull out some scare tactics but decided to pull-out once they found out what kind of massive support this guy was getting from accross the country. If they went through with the suit it would have bee a public relations nightmare! (It already was)

WHEW. Just finished reading the whole thing. Intense. Glad they dropped the suit...not that certain aspects really mattered that much. I don't think G-man has ANY intent of ever going near that dealership ever again, so the restraining order is somewhat moot. They deserved no money, so they got no money.

Just incredible how some people can be so audacious and oblivious to the true nature of their jobs (customer service positions), yet still somehow remain in those positions. Oh well. Thanks for sharing the thread with us, Mark. Good stuff to see and know.

Roasta - soapbox is a colloquialism used to describe a place that is used for an individual to air their views to anyone willing to listen. The mental image the term is intended to bring up is of a random person on the streetcorner, spewing off their beliefs of a topic for all to hear. They don't have the "official authority" that anyone should particularly listen or believe them, so instead of actually having a podium, they are just standing on top of a crate so that they are higher up than everyone else, for all to hear. This is all "proverbial," obviously.

But this is what g-man of VWVortex did. He's no better or different than any of the other posters on the forum. But he had a crap experience with a dealership, and he felt the need to post his frustrations and warn everyone about their lack of service to him. He's no official on the topic, just a dissatisfied customer. It would have been very different if, say, the head of consumer relations for WV of America had gone onto the board and made the same post!

g-man : soapbox, has no real authority
head of consumer relations for VWoA : podium, has LOTS of real authority

Hence, it is said that g-man was "getting up on his soapbox" or was using the forum "as a soapbox" for his complaints.

Dang, these things are hard to explain sometimes! I hope this helped, and didn't just confuse you more.
