Default Court rules no Second Amendment protection for concealed carry

CNN Article

A federal appeals court ruled on Thursday that there is no Second Amendment protection for concealed weapons -- allowing states to prohibit or restrict the public from carrying concealed firearms.

At issue was California's law on concealed weapons, which requires citizens to prove they have "good cause" to carry concealed firearms to get a license. Plaintiffs challenged guidelines in San Diego and Yolo counties that did not consider general self-defense to be enough to obtain a license.

California state Attorney General Kamala Harris said the decision "is a victory for public safety and sensible gun safety laws. The ruling ensures that local law enforcement leaders have the tools they need to protect public safety by determining who can carry loaded, concealed weapons in our communities."

As a gun advocate myself, I see no Constitutional problem with this. We are guaranteed the right to bear arms, not the right to hide them.

What a joke. It's so irritating when these kinds of laws are passed because the criminals dont give a flying f*ck about what Congress passes. They are still gonna conceal their weapons. This just makes the law abiding citizens more vulnerable and unprotected. If you pass the courses and lawfully get a conceal permit, why can't it be for your own protection? Pisses me off.

This decision doesn't say you can't concealed carry. It says concealed carry is not Constitutionally protected. If your state offers a CCW and you pass the courses and get a concealed permit, you can still carry concealed.

I believe open carry should be legal everywhere.

I think concealed carry is a good thing, but I think it's pretty questionable whether it would be specifically protected under the 2nd amendment.

Going with the crowd on this one. Bear arms - nothing about arms in your pants.

I am good with the way Texas is running its program.

There's nothing that says it's protected, but on the flipside, there's nothing that says it isn't.

That's not how The Constitution works. It says what your right are, not what they aren't. Laws are what restrict how far your rights extend. In this case, the 9th Circuit said they don't extend to hiding your arms.
