A cop was shot last night

In my city. Routine traffic stop where the cop got out, and a couple of thugs shot at him, killing him and hitting an innocent bystander. One of the thugs got shot, but wasnt killed. The city is going crazy right now, and everyone is screaming for justice. Pretty sad. :disappointed2:

I know tons of people that have taken to an unnecessarily paranoid fear and/or irrational hatred of police recently. I don't want to blame it on any specific incident, but there is only one thing that comes to mind (and that theses idiots specifically quote). Also keep in mind the power of social media, especially in that given scenario. Now give power to a bunch of essentially weaponized facebook/twitter/tumbler/etc-zombies and you have a recipe for what what just occurred here. But on a more massive scale. Expect this to become disturbingly more common

Basically, the guy who shot the cop was just released from prison 3 weeks ago. The cop ended up on a foot chase trying to catch the gunman because he was a suspect in a crime that had just happened. They ran between a couple of houses and when the cop rounded the corner of one house, the gunman was standing there waiting and shot him. His partner drove up in the cop car, grabbed him and raced to the hospital, where he didnt make it. When the cop got shot, he was able to fire back and hit the gunman but he survived after being driven to the hospital in an ambulance. And when he got hit, he dropped his gun, which went off and hit an innocent bystander, but he was just grazed by the bullet in his leg.

So the community is mourning the loss of the cops life. He leaves behind a wife, a 4 year old (who just started kindergarten 2 days ago), and a 3 month old baby. The cop was on the force for 8 years, and was a decorated officer with multiple awards and recognition for being able to get guns off the street. They are saying the gunman will get life in prison, since there isnt a death penalty in NY. So that scumbag will be able to get a full college education in prison (something our wonderful Governor set up), full health care, be able to rent movies (another thing our awesome lawmakers passed), and have a cushy life while being a hero in prison for shooting a cop. One can only hope the prison guards make his life a living hell for years and years to come for what he did.
