NOSorTURBO??
Hey random thanks for the turbo info you the man! ok im thinking that the turbo is good for lets say 75-90hp now i can save lots of time and money just to go with a 75shot nos system.with all the new nos systems today zex-venom-nx-nos most of them have a built in safety system if the air/fuel is not right on the seystem will disarm so i gess nos really is not a bad idea rather then spending $3,000-4,000 right??? other than making tongue.gif trips for a refill
it all depends how much power you want, how often, and how much do you have to spend
Turbos will usually cost you a minimum of 3000 just to set up.
Nitrous will not give you the all around gains, but its relatively cheaper at around 500 bucks.
Both can be safe and both can be dangerous.
BTW,... most Nitrous applications will NOT stop if the air/fuel is not right. They do NOT have a built in A/F meter.
I currently have the ZEX kit,... its kool for that extra kick.

for less than the price of a standard turbo upgrade, you can buy some stronger rods, a good wet nitrous system, pay for the labor of installing everything.. and still have money left over !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also, you can spray HELLA MORE NITROUS and add more power than a standard turbo can add with the greatest of ease.
i like that phrase.. "with the greatest of ease".. yup... thats how i like to win races.. with "great ease".
HAHAAAAA

Nitrous is cool and all, but there's not many sounds in the world as good as a HKS Turbo Blowoff Valve.
I guess it's what you want a good bit of power all the time, or a "shot" of power all at once.

Up to about the +150 HP mark, Nitrous is still the cheaper option. There are guys in PR running 150 shots on stock motors with a wet progressive setup.
If you want more than about +150, then the turbo and nitrous get to be about the same price.
The advantage of Nitrous is that there is much LESS wear and tear on your engine, as you are only running the higher HP levels when you WANT to. With a turbo, you have the additional power there all the time. You can adjust your driving habits to compensate for this of course...but how many of you out there are really going to do that? Lord knows I don't! *lol*

Everybody has a different cutoff for nitrous vs turbo. Mine is a little lower than Random's.. I would say the 75-100 hp mark. I think anymore than a 100 hp shot the need for race fuel and questions about the durability of the stock pistons start becoming a factor.
I know those crazies in PR spray more but I bet that they are using race fuel, running a timing retard system and break more than their share of pistons.
A properly sorted out turbo is just so much more fun. Power to use everyday and every minute. Want to speed up to pass a couple of cars in traffic... just press lightly down on the pedal. Some guy is pestering you... press down on the pedal. So much better than.. activate the bottle opener, activate the nitrous, purge... is the bottle pressure and temp OK?... Then the trips down to refill the nitrous can start becoming a hassle. After a while it becomes a track only item... like taking out the passenger seat and spare tire. Good for posting numbers but is it worth the hassle?
Anyways, back to the original questions. For levels upto 75 hp I recommend a simple dry system especially for the non serious gearhead... ZEX. Works great, tested by tons of people, easy to install, looks stealthy under the hood. For more serious nitrous... wet systems... I prefer NX.
For anymore power than +100 hp, I recommend a turbo. Mainly because if you want that kind of power...
1. You can afford to spend the money needed
2. You will want that power all the time
3. I'm not a big fan of carrying 2-3 tanks (assuming you want +200 hp for more than 30-45 sec)of an accelerator in a car filled with gasoline.
4. A turbo will put out more power than you will ever need outside of a caged in, full slicked, lightened chassis drag car.
