Default NOS

Hello everyone
I have a 99 hyundai tiburon with 110,000 Kms on it, and I wanted to add NOS or a really good supercharger. When is it too late to add these items? Is my engine too old or what? Because otherwise I was thinking of swaping the Tibby egine with a twin turbo egine.
Thanks

ok before you get attacked,... you can not swap out the engine for a twin turbo engine. Its possible, but VERY expensive.

If you have to pick between a super charger and nitrous,... do the nitrous. The beta engine (which is the one you have) does not seem to like superchargers very much. You can however add a turbo to this engine. This engine is stronger than people think wink.gif

And which "Twin Turbo" engine do you speak of? And how will you accomplish that?

Trying to find a twin turbo engine that would fit in the Tiburon engine bay would be very hard. It would not make sense to twin turbocharge a small I4 motor, so you would have to try to fit in a small v6 or I6 of some sort. That would be prohibitively expensive.

The Korean tuners have much luck adding a single turbo the the Tiburon engine and pulling out 600+ hp to the wheels.

The standard "roots" Type supercharger, that replaces the Intake Manifold is only good to about 250 Wheel HP tops, as it cannot be intercooled. A Centrifical supercharger could get you more HP, but they tend to be "peaky" and difficult to drive at high boost levels (when they make big power).

Nitrous oxide would be safe up to about a 65 shot in 100% stock trim. If you want to go higher than that, you would have to make some modifications to the fuel delivery system and in other areas.

In regards to doing any of these mods on a 110,000km old engine....that depends on the engine's maintenance history, and current condition. If the motor and tranny has been properly maintained, and in good running order, you should not have to fix/replace anything other than what you would have to fix/replace on a fairly new motor to acomplish the same mods. If the engine/tranny has been poorly maintained...then you will have to bring the engine/tranny up to a good state of tune before attemping any modifications.

When I put the NOS into my car, what other things do I have to do to my car? Everyone says I'll blow my engine.

Depends on how much Nitrous you want to add. Nitrous is as safe as Turbocharging or supercharging, it just has maintenance requirements just like a turbocharger or supercharger. If you abuse a turbo car, it will break/blow, ditto for Nitrous, supercharged or even N/A!
