Here To Help
Car's completely stock right now. It's pretty much been my reliable ride since the Rx7 blew an apex seal and wiped out half the motor. Seriously, the biggest thing I've done to my tiburon was replace the radiator about a month ago, and I finally got around to putting a different shift knob on... about three days ago. So just imagine a completely stock, black '99 FX.
And I still have the Rx7. It's the car I do all the mods to. While rebuilding the engine, I ported and polished the side and intermediate housings (intake) and slightly upgraded the exhaust ports. Since then, I've only done minor upgrades, such as a custom cold air intake, custom exhaust mated to a pacesetter catback system, and converted the stock engine driven fan to an electric fan. I also installed an apex'i safc II and an NGK Air/fuel ratio gauge to even out the fuel map since doing the upgrades. It's amazing to see just how much difference in tuning you'll need to do after installing such common upgrades. Everything else has been modified for reliability, such as the oil injection lines, cooling system, etc.
Future plans for the tiburon include the 1.8 cam swap (which I'll be doing as soon as it comes in from Kspec), and maybe a 50 hp~ish shot of nitrous. I still want to install full coilovers to improve the terrible fwd cornering. It just doesn't compare to an rx7 when it comes to handling.
The rx7 is soon to have a turbo. I'll be doing everything custom, since it's much cheaper that way, and I'll know the quality of work is right. I plan on using the stock turbo from a 2nd gen, a custom exhaust manifold, and a modified intake plenum. I already have a walbro fuel pump and 650cc injectors, coupled with the tuning software already on the car, it'll be solid.
And last but not least, ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence. I really don't know how else to describe it, but it's like the SAT's for working on cars. They give tests, mechanics take them, some pass the tests and become certified. It's just a way of telling your employer that you are a badass and know it, therefore you hold more bargaining power to demand more money for the skills you've proven to have. The tests really aren't hard, but some people are just bad at taking tests, but still know alot. But, in a nutshell, if you want to be a mechanic, you should become ASE certified. It's like having a degree to work on cars.
I may post pics of my car if you still want. But I'm warning you.... she's a stocker!

Post pic's of both cars!
Amen to the tib dosn't hold the road the way a RX7 does, something about rear wheel drive!
quote "I still want to install full coilovers to improve the terrible fwd cornering."
I am looking at a full coilover kit myself to help cure some of the shortcomings of FWD.
but I do have to say that all of the RD tib's looks much better than all but the 3rd gen RX7'S.
Welcome to the site! glad you are here.

ok... ok. You talked me into it. I did some digging and found some pics of when I first bought the 7, and some more of after I rebuilt the engine. Like I said, I bought the tiburon because she's reliable. The only current picture I have of my tiburon is in the background of the second pic. Here, you'll see my very first car. This was taken right when I brought it home. She had about 175K on the odometer when I bought it. This thing was 100% stock. I've replaced so much stuff on this car... it's kind of funny to look at how far it's come since I bought her.

And the second pic. I only had her for a matter of months (and roughly 3000 miles) before the engine died. Then, it was down for about 7months while I rebuilt the engine in my spare time. So then I bought the tiburon, which I drive a hell of alot more than I do the 7. I get ~32mpg in the tiburon, and about 10 in the 7.

Dusty hood- always a good sign fing02.gif
I'll see if during the daylight I can take some pics of the tiburon. It's just that I'm always at work during the daylight hours.

Wow, that sounds most impressive hail.gif
Have fun working on the tib smile.gif

Nice Love the 2nd gen 7. Mine was not topless but only had 38000 when I got her. Wanted to do a triple rotor 20B before the cops took her, but that’s a long story and way off topic.
Nice tib in the background. Wish my RD2 got 32 MPG. Glad to see ya here!
Sevens and tibs are my favorite cars. PM me on your thoughts on the RX8.
Oh and ASE means you can pass the tests, not that you can turn the wrench. LOL! cool.gif

So it rained today.

But I got pics anyways!!!

I hear that the golden bronze color on the dash is kind of rare apparently.
And like I said, some people are just bad at taking tests, but still know alot. Let's hope the ones who can pass the tests can at least turn wrenches. Not always the case though! laugh.gif
And the Rx-8... it's cool in its own rights. The engine is amazing. People can knock Mazda all they want for claiming 250hp and only producing 238, but it still produces that from a naturally aspirated 1.3Liter! I just wish that they'd made it a traditional 2 door/ 2 seater. They really lost a large fan base when they made it a sedan.
Just installed the 1.8 cam a couple days ago... Whooo! Little more pep now, but I think I'm going to need more cool.gif
