Why you need an alarm?

Ok, for me up to this point my alarms and remote starts have always been a convenience item. Cool the car off in the summer, heat it in the winter.

Tonight that all changed!

My wife and I had gone over to my mothers to visit because we had not seen them in awhile. We had been out on the back porch all night just talking. Out of nowhere my alarm goes off. Never having to expect that it was MY alarm before it took a second to register that it was my car. After it finally CLICKED I ran to the fence to see two guys running down the street.

I then did the normal thing and called the cops and such. I was lucky enough to have no damage to my car except a scratch on my passenger glass.

The moral of the story...get an alarm...they HELP. Yes everyone knows the person that had an alarm that did NOTHING for them....however I now know VERY PERSONALLY that they can and do help prevent you from needing to pay a deductible for replacement items

I paid for my alarm tonight by not having my $700 ID stolen.

An alarm does help. Especially if you choose the right one and use it properly.

I have had mine go off several times and gone outside to find the dew wiped off of my windows where someone had been looking to see what I had inside.

I highly suggest getting one with a 2 way pager. It takes away any question that it might not be your alarm going off. That feature alone has more than doubled the effectiveness of my alarms for me. Sometimes no matter how loud it is and how much you think it should wake you up I have slept through my car alarm going off outside. With the pager on my nightstand it wakes me up immediately.

I've had a couple of break-ins with an alarm on the car. The first was just because at that apartment I had to park a long ways from where I lived. I got a pager on the next alarm there and I always knew as soon as it went off. The second break in was my own fault. I fell victim to some determined thieves. They kept setting off my shock sensor in the hopes that I would turn down the sensitivity or turn the alarm off. I wasn't familiar with the tactic (read about it) so I thought the alarm was malfunctioning because it went off at random times and everything seemed fine every time I checked on it. Don't turn off your alarm if you didn't change anything and it starts "false alarming" all the time. Someone is trying to break in so it's the last thing you want to do. I learned that the hard way.

I've had attempted break-ins averted at least a dozen times and while I have been hit twice it's better than 14 times.
