Power Cap Install
just wondering how to hook up a power cap?..... do you: A) just put it near the amp on the power wire?
---OR---
B) split the power wire into 2 then hook the 1st up to the cap, then from the cap to the amp, and the 2nd go straight to the amp
thx

Physically, the cap should be placed as close to the amp as possible. This is to minimize the length of + and - cable going from the cap to the amp, which reduces voltage drop.
Electrically, the cap is placed in parallel to the amp, between the battery and the amp.
B+ cable from the battery-----------------------to the + side of the cap
B+ from the + side of the cap to the B+ input of the amp.
The ground connection can be done 2 different ways:
(1)Connect the ground side of the cap to chassis ground and connect another cable from the ground side of the cap to the ground on the amp.
(2)Connect the ground side of the cap to chassis ground. Then, connect another cable from chassis ground to the ground side of the amp.

Yup, I forgot to mention charging the cap.
If you do not initially charge the cap, thru a resistor, you can damage the cap.
If you purchase one new, it will come with a charging resistor.Lightning audio caps have a small ckt board that you connect to the cap. There are wires comming off the ckt board that are connected to ground and to a 12v source.Kepp it hooked up like that until the green ckt board LED lights up.Then it's charged and ready to be installed to the amp.
